			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If the situation over at the White House petition site wasn&#8217;t already silly, now it&#8217;s official.  As the number of petitions to allow states to secede from the United States continues to grow, there are now a couple of petitions aimed at punishing those who signed said petitions.  </p>
<p>Yesterday, we told you that the number of secessions petitions on the &#8220;We the People&#8221; site <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/nearly-half-the-states-are-represented-in-secession-petitions-on-the-white-house-site-2012-11">had grown to 25</a>.  Those 25 petitions represented 22 different states, who all asked that the United States government grant them the right to peacefully leave the union to form their own government.  Although none of the petitions specifically state the reelection of President Obama as the catalyst, the petitions began to roll in on November 7th, so it&#8217;s probably safe to assume that it was at least a contributing factor.  </p>
<p>As of this morning, 15 new petitions have appeared, meaning that there are currently 40 secession requests on the White House site.  </p>
<p>But now, there&#8217;s a new wrinkle in the story.  Two new petitions ask the federal government to deal with the secessionists by either <a href="https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/deport-everyone-signed-petition-withdraw-their-state-united-states-america/dmQl1bXL">deporting them</a>, or <a href="https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/strip-citizenship-everyone-who-signed-petition-secede-and-exile-them/ZbMjcwPf">stripping them of their citizenship and exiling them</a>.</p>
<p>&#8220;Deport Everyone That Signed A Petition To Withdraw Their State From The United States Of America,&#8221; says one of the petitions.</p>
<p>&#8220;Mr. President, please sign an executive order such that each American citizen who signed a petition from any state to secede from the USA shall have their citizenship stripped and be peacefully deported,&#8221; says the other.  </p>
<p>All of this is funny and all, or not funny at all depending on who you ask.  The real lesson from this is that the White House petition site is moving closer to becoming a joke with every passing day.  Out of 92 open petitions, there are now 42 that are completely ridiculous and have absolutely no chance of receiving a legitimate response from the White House.  Many have <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/sopa-petition-gains-steam-some-are-less-than-enthusiastic-about-its-prospects-2011-11">derided the site as a sham</a> since its creation last September, but this all but solidifies that position.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Some people are taking the election results pretty hard, or at least had the election serve as a catalyst for their previously-held secessionist beliefs.  Maybe it&#8217;s the fact that <em>Lincoln</em> hits the theaters this week.  </p>
<p>Whatever the case, you should probably know that there are currently <a href="https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions">25 different petitions</a> to secede from the United States on the White House&#8217;s &#8220;We the People&#8221; online petition site.  </p>
<p>Though it is altered a bit on some of the petitions, this is what graces the body of most of them:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:</p>
<p>&#8220;When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature&#8217;s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;&#8230;Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government&#8230;&#8221;</em></p></blockquote>
<p>All but four of the petitions were created on November 10th, but all of them are authored by different people (at least on paper).  All of them are titled in the exact same way as well &#8211; &#8220;Peacefully grant the State of X to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.&#8221;  Either this is a coordinated effort between secessionists in multiple states, or one or two guys creating petitions for different states under assumed names.</p>
<p>Either way, most of the petitions have around 4,000 signatures.  The only exception is the <a href="https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-texas-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/BmdWCP8B">petition specific to Texas</a>, which has over 27,000 signatures.  That means that it has reached the official threshold for a response, which is currently set at 25,000 signatures.  That petition was begun on November 9th and gives this reason:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government&#8217;s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it&#8217;s citizens&#8217; standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>None of the petitions speak directly to the November 6th Presidential election, but all of them were created after President Obama won a second term.  As of today, there are official petitions for Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia (x2), Mississippi, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, New Jersey, Oregon, Colorado, New York, South Carolina (x2), Michigan, Tennessee, Missouri (x2), Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona.  </p>
<p>The White House launched the We the People online petition site back in September of 2011.  Although many citizens have <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/sopa-petition-gains-steam-some-are-less-than-enthusiastic-about-its-prospects-2011-11">bemoaned its lack of any discernable purpose</a>, the White House has <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/the-white-house-says-we-the-people-petitions-dont-fall-on-deaf-ears-video-2012-03">promised that they are listening</a>.   </p>

Mitt Romney has a wonderful family, he&#8217;s healthy (per Presidential physical), and he can continue on with his life knowing that nearly half of the country wanted him to be President &#8211; he&#8217;ll be ok.  But still, it has to be tough &#8211; I can only imagine.  </p>
<p>Of course, the amount of people talking about Mitt Romney will drop off with every passing day.  People will continue to talk about President Obama, and will soon begin to talk about the possible GOP candidates for 2016.  But Mitt Romney is going to lose popularity, it&#8217;s inevitable.  </p>
<p><a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/11/09/mitt-romney-losing-facebook-friends-by-the-minute/">The Washington Post ran an article</a> that said Mitt Romney was losing Facebook followers by the minute.  It makes sense that a losing Presidential candidate would suffer some sort of momentum loss in the social media department.  But they&#8217;re reporting a loss of nearly 600 friends an hour.  I thought I&#8217;d look at some data from Facebook and Twitter &#8211; and they&#8217;re right.  Mitt Romney&#8217;s social media momentum hit a wall after election day.</p>
<p>Behold, this is what happens to you on Facebook when you lose a Presidential election (courtesy <a href="http://pagedata.appdata.com/pages/facebook/mitt-romney/21392801120">PageData</a>):</p>

<p>For weeks, Romney was consistently gaining between 120,000 and 160,000 new Facebook likes per day.  Suddenly, yesterday, Mitt Romney&#8217;s page hit a brick wall.  Then he started losing likes.  Followers are jumping ship.  Over 32,000 unliked him on Thursday, and over 13,000 have unliked him today.  </p>
<p>Plus, there&#8217;s that giant plunge in &#8220;people talking about this.&#8221;</p>
<p>When I first looked at Mitt Romney&#8217;s Facebook page today, I saw that he had 12,078,406 likes.  Just 15 minutes later, his total likes dropped to 12,078,211.  That&#8217;s a plunge of nearly 200 likes in 15 minutes.  Whoa.</p>
<p><a href="http://twittercounter.com/MittRomney">Over on Twitter</a>, it looks similar &#8211; although not quite as tragic.  Every day from October 1st to election day, Romney gained followers.  On the low end, 6,000 a day.  On the high end, 30, 40, 50 thousand.  Yesterday he gained 1,156 and today he&#8217;s gained 55.  </p>
<p>Just for a comparison, President Obama has gained over 1.1 million Facebook likes since November 7th.  He&#8217;s also gained nearly that amount of Twitter followers.  To the victor go the social media spoils, I guess.   </p>

<p>Jackson tweeted several times about America being &#8220;dead&#8221; now that Obama is back in office, and is adamant about trying to prove that Mitt Romney was closer to winning than we all think. Her opinions aren&#8217;t being taken seriously, however, as she&#8217;s being blasted all over the web. </p>
<p>The actress previously angered <a href="http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/11/victoria-jackson-tweets-election-barack-obama">&#8220;Glee&#8221;</a> fans everywhere when she spoke up about an episode in which two male characters kissed, saying, &#8220;Did you see Glee this week? Sickening! And, besides shoving the gay thing down our throats, they made a mockery of Christians – again!&#8221;</p>
<p>Her rants have been compiled into one spoof by comedienne Julie Brown, who takes on the blonde&#8217;s quirky personality with ease. </p>

It seemed like a very tight race for hours, sometimes even coming within a few hundred votes for some states. </p>
<p>Shortly before midnight, however, President Obama won the necessary amount of Electoral College Votes needed to bring him back to office for another term. Today, many are left wondering where he stands with the popular vote, which was predicted to be another close race. </p>
<p>Romney held a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/07/who-won-the-popular-vote-2012_n_2087038.html">slight lead</a> as of last night, before many of the western states had been accounted for. But Nate Silver of the <em>New York Times</em> says Obama will more than likely top his opponent by the time it&#8217;s all said and done. </p>
<p>&#8220;Mr. Obama is also likely to win the popular vote, perhaps by two to three percentage points, once votes from California, Oregon and Washington are fully counted,&#8221; <a href="http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/06/live-blog-the-2012-presidential-election/">Silver wrote</a>. </p>
<p>Obama earned a record number of racial minority voters this year, which helped him considerably in key states. He was able to take almost all of the swing states by storm, although not all of the counts are in just yet. </p>

Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, New Hampshire &#8211; these are a few of the states that will likely shape the trajectory of the next four years.  And with uncertainty comes possibilites.  </p>
<p>The political junkie and the casually-informed voter will both enjoy this interactive map from the New York Times.  It outlines every single path to 270 electoral votes &#8211; all 512 of them.  From the start, the Times gives President Obama 431 paths to victory, Romney 76, and 5 state-by-state outcomes that could cause an electoral college tie &#8211; the &#8220;nightmare scenario.&#8221;  </p>
<p>Users can give each state to the Democrats to the Republicans &#8211; starting with Florida and moving on to eight more states.  With each pick, the odds change and you can see exactly what has to happen for each candidate to win.  </p>
<p>The most compelling visual from this map comes after the very first selection.  If you give Florida to Obama, he has 255 ways to win from that point on.  On the other hand, Romney would have only one.  He would have to win Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I think most of us can commiserate; listening to endless polling stats and predictions, recaps of debates, recaps of campaign stops, and recaps of recaps can be difficult to handle in the weeks leading up to election day. So when 4-year old Abigael had a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/31/colorado-4-year-old-is-ti_n_2048867.html">meltdown</a> in the car and her mom found out the reason, she says she <a href="http://www.9news.com/news/article/297009/339/Presidential-candidates-make-4-year-old-cry">changed the radio station</a> out of sympathy. </p>
<p>&#8220;Why are you crying?&#8221; her mom asks. </p>
<p>&#8220;Just because I&#8217;m tired of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney,&#8221; Abigael says pitifully. </p>
<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s why you&#8217;re crying? It&#8217;ll be over soon, the election will be over soon, okay?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Okay,&#8221; Abigael replies. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Colin Powell, who was Secretary of State under George W. Bush, publicly announced this morning that he is endorsing President Obama for a second term. </p>
<p>Powell backed Obama during the last election, as well, much to the dismay of his fellow Republicans. But he says he likes to get all the facts and see exactly what each candidate will do during their campaigns before making his decision on who to vote for, something which gets pushed to the wayside these days in favor of voting strictly for one&#8217;s party.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think I&#8217;m a Republican of a more moderate mold,&#8221; <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57539893/colin-powell-endorses-barack-obama-for-president/?tag=AverageHero;HeroImage">he said</a>. &#8220;That&#8217;s something of a dying breed I&#8217;m sorry to say.&#8221;</p>
<p>On President Obama, Powell said the country needs to remember that Congress shoulders a lot of the blame for the deep pit of problems the country has been in over recent years, and that the president has accomplished many of the things he set out to do four years ago. </p>
<p>&#8220;When he took over, the country was in very very difficult straits,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We were in the one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression. The fiscal system was collapsing. Wall Street was in chaos, we had 800,000 jobs lost in that first month of the Obama administration and unemployment peaked a few months later at 10 percent. So we were in real trouble. The auto industry was collapsing, the housing was start[ing] to collapse and we were in very difficult straits. And I saw over the next several years, stabilization come back in the financial community, housing is now starting to pick up after four years, it&#8217;s starting to pick up. Consumer confidence is rising&#8230;.Generally we&#8217;ve come out of the dive and we&#8217;re starting to gain altitude. The unemployment rate is too high, people are still hurting in housing, but I see that we&#8217;re starting to rise up.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A blimp carrying a political message in favor of U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney crashed (but didn&#8217;t burn) in a field in Davie, Florida on Sunday.  The aircraft made an emergency landing and deflated after high winds prevented it from moving forward.  The FAA is currently investigating the incident.</p>
<p>Along the side of the blimp, Romney&#8217;s face and the message &#8220;AMERICA NEEDS ROMNEY&#8221; could be seen as it traveled from Boca Raton to an airport in Pembroke Pines.  According to a Miami Herald <a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/10/21/3060738/blimp-like-craft-with-romney-ad.html">report</a>, the pilot downed the 160-foot airship in an open area of a housing development after it became clear the craft wasn&#8217;t going to make it to its destination.  The landing was successful, and no people or property were damaged.</p>

<p>Romney will be hoping that his presidential aspirations won&#8217;t take the same nose dive tonight, as the former Massachusetts governor and President Obama square off in the third and final presidential debate.</p>
<p>Just weeks away from election day, <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/">Real Clear Politics</a> national polls show Romney with a slight edge.  On a state-by-state basis, however, President Obama is leading polls in several key <a href="http://www.webpronews.com/swing-state-votes-key-for-both-obama-and-romney-2012-10">swing states</a>, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.  Winning those four states would put the president just a few electoral votes away from reelection.  Romney is currently leading polls in Florida, while Virginia and Colorado are currently a toss-up.</p>
