Amazon Launches Kindle Singles

 Amazon has officially introduced its Kindle Singles, short format ebooks that it announced plans for back in October.

Kindle Singles are between 5,000  and 30,000 words and are available in the Kindle Store for between $0.99 and $4.99. Amazon said it plans to frequently introduce many more Kindle Singles over time.

Google Buys eBook Technologies to Provide Richer e-Reading Experiences on Tablets

eBooks and e-readers are big business these days. Amazon’s Kindle recently became the company’s best-selling product ever, and its competitors have done pretty well too. Now tablets are coming out of the woodwork to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPad, and these are also ideal for reading eBooks (some with Android).

Amazon announced today that it will launch Kindle Singles, a new kind of Kindle book format that are twice the length of a New Yorker feature or the length of a few chapters of a book.

Barnes & Noble Launches Online Publishing Platform

Barnes & Noble has introduced “PubIt!” a platform for independent publishers and authors to digitally distribute their content through BN.com and the company’s eBookstore.

PubIt! uses a Web-based platform for publishers to independently set up their accounts, upload their eBooks, set the list price and track their sales and payments. Publishers can price their titles between $0.99 and $199.99 and receive a royalty based on the given price.

Kobo Emerges as the E-Reading App for the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy Tab tablet device, and Kobo announced that it is supplying the e-reader technology for it.

"After much speculation, the new Samsung GALAXY Tab has just been announced by Samsung’s CEO in Berlin, and Kobo is THE eReading application powering the ‘Readers Hub’ on the new Android tablet," says Kobo. "This partnership is an industry first for Kobo and Samsung, offering the first eReading experience on an Android Tablet to readers worldwide."

Amazon Selling Kindles Like Hotcakes, Shipping Early

Amazon has announced that more new generation Kindles were ordered in the first four weeks of availability than in the same timeframe for any other Kindle launch.

Additionally, in those four weeks, customers ordered more Kindles on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk combined than any other product. That makes Kindle the bestselling product across all products on Amazon for two straight years.
