That’s right, NFL Blitz is back! While it’s only for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, don’t count it out. The digital release of NBA Jam was met with critical acclaim and NFL Blitz comes from the like-minded design of an arcade sports title that’s appealing to fans of the sport as well as fans of old-school arcade sports action.

The new NFL Blitz features 7-on-7 matches, an offline single-player mode called Blitz Gauntlet, the online mode called Blitz Battles and the ability to mix and match players to create a dream team by collecting player cards in the Elite League mode.

“We look forward to introducing the over-the-top football action that made NFL Blitz a classic arcade hit to a new generation of gamers,” Cam Weber says, General Manager of American Football for EA SPORTS. “And we are excited to deliver to fans of the original game, the new NFL Blitz complete with online features and in high definition for the first time.”

A first for a digital sports game release, EA had the fans vote for the cover athlete for the new NFL Blitz during December’s Spike TV “Video Game Awards.” Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was chosen over fellow Pro Bowlers Roddy White and Patrick Willis.

NFL Blitz was first released as an arcade game in 1997 and quickly became a fan favorite among fans of the sport, and arcade gamers. In 1998, the game moved to the Nintendo 64 and Sony PlayStation consoles which granted the game its biggest fanbase yet. There were various console versions released between 1998 and 2003 until Midway lost the NFL license.

Midway attempted to bring the Blitz franchise back in 2004 with Blitz: The League. The game was a massive departure for the franchise by not only losing the NFL franchise, but adding a story that had the player managing a team in which they could force steroid use on the players and other illegal activities.

The release of NFL Blitz marks the first Blitz game since 2008 and the first Blitz game to feature the NFL license since 2003.

NFL Blitz was developed by EA Tiburon which most fans associate as the developers of the Madden and NCAA Football games.

NFL Blitz will set you back 1200 Microsoft Points on XBLA or $14.99 on the PSN.

PGA Tour Golf Challenge features real time 3D game play and allows users to play with their Facebook friends.

Users can play rounds of golf to earn experience on well know courses such as Pebble Beach Golf Links, St. Andrews, and TPC Sawgrass. Daily challenges allow players to compete against their Facebook friends, with weekly champions crowned.

Aimed at a casual gaming audience, the game features accessible controls, including one-click swing, easy aiming with a mouse or keyboard, an assortment of custom clubs, and a variety of shot types.

*Your Golfer – Customize your golfer with new clubs and gear from the Pro Shop, train daily and then hit the links to earn experience.

*Daily Challenge – Play quick, daily 3 hole challenges versus your Facebook friends to earn experience. Come back every day for new challenges and compete against your friends to determine the weekly champion.

 The game, EA Sports FIFA Superstars, was developed by Playfish and will be available on additional social networks soon.

"We are leveraging our soccer expertise with the experience of our partners at Playfish to create a casual soccer game for a broader audience," said Matt Bilbey, vice president of soccer, EA Sports.

"Soccer fans have a voracious appetite for their sport so we are creating interactive soccer entertainment in new ways and on new platforms to meet the interest," continued Bilbey. "We are excited to broaden our reach from the console that touches our core audience of 10-20 million fans to the hundreds of millions of soccer fans and casual gamers using social networks."

FIFA Superstars will feature EA Sports soccer licenses for 30 leagues, 500 teams and 15,000 players. Users will be able to create a fantasy club side by collecting or trading players, challenging others in competing leagues or searching for leader boards to compete. 

Players will also be able to predict the outcomes of games in the 2010 FIFA World Cup to win in-game coins.

The New England Patriots will beat the New York Giants in a close game by the final score of 38-30. Skeptics may scoff at such a prediction but EA Sports has predicted the past five winners of the Super Bowl.

EA Sports says the Patriots and Giants got off to a close start with two touchdowns by running back Laurence Maroney and three field goals by Giant’s kicker Lawrence Tynes who helped the Giants get to the Super Bowl by kicking the game winning kick over the Green Bay Packers.

 Towards the end of the third quarter the Patriots led by only one 24-23. They added to their lead with a 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Brady to wide receiver Randy Moss. In the fourth quarter the Giants were down 31-23 and a chance to tie the game. A tipped pass by quarterback Eli Manning dashed those hopes as the Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel made an interception. The Patriots would score one more time to take the lead 38-23.

The Giants scored one last time and the game ended 38-30. It will be fun to see how the real game turns out on Sunday.
