Titled Blade Wolf, the DLC will feature a campaign side-story that revolves around LQ-84i, one of the bosses in the main game. The story will take place before the dog-like mech’s encounter with Raiden, when LQ-84i is working for another main game boss, Mistral.

The gameplay will feature LQ-84i’s special abilities and weapons, implying that players will get to step into the mech’s shoes as they uncover the origins of the so-called “Blade Wolf.” Konami has promised “multiple hours of gameplay,” “countless” enemies, and a new boss battle to conquer.

Konami has released some preview images for the Blade Wolf DLC which can be seen below. If nothing else, the new DLC will help occupy Metal Gear fans during their wait for The Phantom Pain.

While waiting for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, fans of Assassin’s Creed III have been enjoying the alternate-history version of American history told in the three-part DLC tale The Tyranny of King Washington. The first two parts of the story are already out, and today the final portion of the tale can be downloaded for Xbox 360 and PC. The PlayStation 3 version of the content will be available tomorrow, April 24, and the Wii U version will launch on May 16.

Titled “The Redemption,” the latest DLC will see Ratonhnhaké:ton journey to New York and break into Washington’s pyramid-shaped “monarch fortress.” Ubisoft also mentioned something about discovering the “power of the bear.”

Activision and Treyarch revealed this week that Uprising, the newest map pack for Call of Duty 2: Black Ops 2, will feature the usual four new maps and one new zombie campaign. Three of the maps – Magma, Encore and Vertigo – are entirely new. The other map – Studio – is a reimagining of the Firing Range map. As for the zombies mode, the new campaign is called “Mob of the Dead.”

The Uprising map pack will be available first on Xbox Live starting April 16. It will move to other platforms at a later date.

In what’s either a cruel April Fools’ joke, or the most amazing thing to ever happen in video games – Ubisoft today announced a “movie” called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Here’s the amazing synopsis:

The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.

A previous report from Kotaku indicates that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon may indeed be an expansion, an entirely new game, based on the Far Cry 3 universe. One indication we have that this may be more than a joke is that it’s been officially rated by the Australian Classification Board as R 18+ for having a “high impact sex scene.” Another sliver of hope is an achievement list for the game that features such feats as “Dragon Slayer” and “The Drug of the Nation.”

There’s still no word on whether or not this is real, but there’s hope that Ubisoft isn’t just pulling our collective legs on this one. I think I would cry if this turned out to be nothing more than a joke.

At PAX East, Gearbox Software announced that Krieg the Psycho will be joining the cast of Borderlands 2. He’s the first new character to join the vault hunters since last year’s Gaige the Mechromancer. Krieg will primarily be a melee character, but he has a few ranged abilities as well. He will be available as part of the Psycho Pack in May for $9.99.

Joystiq is also reporting that Gearbox will sell a Vault Hunter Upgrade pack in April for $5. This DLC pack will increase the game’s level cap from 50 to 61. It will be available to all those who purchased the Season Pass. It will also feature a mode for those wanting to play through the game a third time called the “Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.”

Those anticipating the final piece of DLC for Borderlands 2 won’t have much longer to wait as its expected to launch in June. After that, it’s anybody’s guess where Gearbox will do with the Borderlands franchise. My bet is on a third game for next-gen consoles.

EA announced last month that the first piece of DLC for Dead Space 3 would be called “Awakened.” A new trailer released today finally reveals more details on the expansion. Awakened takes place directly after the events of the main game, and features our two heroes facing off against a group of Unitologists on board a derelict ship. The DLC promises plenty of scares so those disappointed in Dead Space 3 might find more to like here.

Dead Space 3 Awakened will launch on PSN, Xbox Live and Origin for PC on March 12.

Today, EA released another trailer showing off all the new maps included in the add-on. The four new maps included in the DLC are “Operation Riverside,” “Nebandan Flats,” “Kiasar Railroad,” and Sabalan Pipeline. As shown prominently in the trailer, dirt bikes will also be introduced in “End Game,” as well as a capture the flag game mode, new assignments, new dog tags, and a new dropship that can perform vehicle drops.

Unfortunately, the tailer does not include any actual gameplay, instead opting to show off the new maps and dirt bikes with frozen panorama shots.

For 1600 Microsoft Points ($20), gamers will get two DLC packs that will be made up of six multiplayer maps, two new multiplayer modes, and exclusive armor and weapon skins. Purchasers of the Season Pass will also get early access to new multiplayer maps.

In addition to this in-game content, Epic will be offering Season Pass subscribers a permanent multiplayer XP boost.

The junk-food extra XP tie-ins for shooters such as Halo were sketchy, but were limited by their physical nature and limited-time offers. Weekend XP bonuses don’t discriminate among players who don’t have extra cash to spend on DLC. Paying for this permanent double XP offer is, according to Epic, a way “to accelerate your ascent through the ranks.”

That’s the way Epic is promoting it, at least. Another way to look at it would be to say that players who don’t pony up a $20 tribute will only earn half XP.

True, extra XP in this case may not confer any winning advantages (unless you consider being a high rank winning), but regardless of whether Judgment‘s XP boost amounts to a pay-to-win scenario, it’s another in a long line of incremental DLC offers that are moving in that direction. While these types offerings are normal and accepted in low-cost mobile games and free-to-play games, seeing them pop up for AAA, $60 console titles is more than a bit disconcerting.

Reckoning will be released on February 26 and be free to download for one year. The content will offer new multiplayer characters, weapons, and upgrades.

Citadel will be released on March 5 and will cost $15 or 1200 Microsoft Points. EA‘s announcement stated that it will feature new single-player campaign content in which players will explore a “deep-space station” while “having the opportunity to reconnect with some of their favorite characters from all three of the Mass Effect games.”

“The team has poured heart and soul into Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3: Citadel,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series. “As the launch of these chapters near, the feeling around the studio is bittersweet. We have always been humbled and driven by the passion of our fans for the Mass Effect trilogy. We hope fans will enjoy spending more time with some of their favorite characters – we have certainly enjoyed spending time creating them. We’re excited to release this final sendoff for the trilogy and move forward into the future of the Mass Effect universe.”

Irrational Games announced this morning that BioShock Infinite will be getting three DLC packs in the future. All three packs will provide “hours of additional gameplay and continue the player’s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.” Each pack will cost $10 upon release.

If you want to save a bit of money, all three packs will be bundled into a season pass that will go on sale on March 26. The season pass will cost $20, and be available across all three platforms. Those who buy the season pass will also receive “Early Bird Special Pack” for free. Here’s what you’ll get:

This bonus pack contains four pieces of exclusive gear, a Machine Gun Damage Upgrade, a Pistol Damage Upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons and five Infusion bottles that allow players to increase their health, their shield durability or their ability to use Vigors by increasing the quantity of Salts they can carry.
