Much like Corvo, Daud is an assassin. He has a few different tricks up his sleeve though, and this gameplay trailer should give players a good idea of what to expect from the assassin that killed an empress:

Dishonored was one of the best experiences of 2012. In fact, the only real complaint one could levy against the title was that it was too short. The developers at Arkane Studios are remedying that this year with the release of the title’s first story based DLC – The Knife of Dunwall.

The Knife of Dunwall has players take on the role of Daud, the assassin responsible for the death of the Empress. New powers, areas to explore and story elements will be revealed as players make their way through the new content:

New Powers, Weapons and Gadgets – The mark of the Outsider empowers you with unique supernatural abilities. Call upon the Whalers to assist in combat with ‘Summon Assassin’, track down hidden Runes and Bone Charms with ‘Void Gaze’ and learn to use new variations to powers, including ‘Blink’. To aid in your dangerous exploits your customized arsenal of weapons and gadgets will include Chokedust to daze your enemies, whale oil powered Stun Mines to shock your targets, and a concealed Wristbow to launch sleep darts and explosive bolts.

Explore More of Dunwall –Make your way through the Legal District and infiltrate the Rothwild Slaughterhouse, a steaming factory filled with colossal whale carcasses and their hulking butchers. Revisit the decaying Flooded District, the location of Daud’s hidden base, first seen in the original game. Return to the scenes of key events in Dishonored with a new perspective, including the fateful moment that sets off Corvo’s journey.

Choose Your Path – On your search for answers, approach each mission with your own style. Your redemption – or your turn towards darkness – depends on your skills and the decisions you make. Discover the mystery behind Delilah in this stand-alone chapter, and then conclude Daud’s story in the upcoming final add-on, The Brigmore Witches.

The Knife of Dunwall will be available on April 16 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC via Steam for $10. The first piece of DLC for Dishonored – Dunwall City Trials – has been available since December.

One of the few complaints about Dishonored was that the game was too short, especially for those players who took a more straightforward approach to accomplishing each mission’s goals. Another was that the game was too easy once Corvo gained access to a few of his supernatural powers.

Bethesda is attempting to fix that with a downloadable content (DLC) pack full of challenges. Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials will feature 10 new challenge maps that will test players’ combat, stealth, and mobility skills. Mention of “waves” of tallboys, guards, weepers, and thugs was made, and a competency with the blink skill will almost certainly be required. The content also includes new achievements and online leaderboards.

A new trailer for the DLC was released today. It looks very similar to the Dishonored content already released, except not hemmed in with the locations, story, and setting of the Dishonored campaign. Dunwall City Trials will be released next week, on December 11.

Bethesda today announced Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, the first DLC for its well-reviewed supernatural stealth assassin adventure game Dishonored.

Dunwall City Trials will be released sometime in December and will feature 10 challenge maps that, according to Bethesda, will test players’ combat, stealth, and mobility skills. The maps will include “a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations” and an arena in which players will battle waves of enemies. The DLC will also feature new achievements/trophies and a global leaderboard for players to compare their skills.

Dunwall City Trials will cost 400 Microsoft Points via Xbox LIVE or $5 via PlayStation Network and PC.

Bethesda also today stated that the second and third DLC for Dishonored will be coming next year. Those add-ons will feature story-driven campaigns rather than challenge maps. The second DLC story will focus on Daud, allowing players to experience new locations in Dunwall. Bethesda implied that players will actually take on the role of Daud, who will have a different set of powers, weapons, and gadgets than Corvo.

This is exciting news for players who loved the stealth action of Dishonored, but found the length of the title lacking. A set of challenge maps should provide some more replay value and get the player community using their assassin skills in creative ways.

The reviews for Dishonored were overwhelming great. The game was lauded for its stealth gameplay, level design, and imaginative art direction. The phrase “game of the year” popped up more than once.

The one negative aspect of Dishonored that took hold and spread through the gaming community was that the game was disappointingly short. A (false) rumor held that someone had beaten the game in four hours while streaming the gameplay. Double that time might not be out of the question, though.

Someone speeding through Dishonored, killing everyone in their path could easily beat the game in under 10 hours. That doesn’t mean the game is short. Much like Skyrim, the game offers up a world and allows players to either rampage through it or take the time to get to know the setting.

Over on YouTube, user ThePhotoshop has created one of what will soon be a multitude of Dishonored videos showing the many creative ways to assassinate the game’s targets. Though ThePhotoshop gets fairly creative with the game’s magic system and objects, this certainly isn’t every single way to eliminate a given target. It is extremely funny, though – especially the one that requires collecting several canisters of whale oil to gently lay a trap while guards and partygoers look on.

The video might contain spoilers concerning the setting of a mission, but there are no story spoilers, so check out the many assassinations of Lady Boyle:

Dishonored, the dystopian, steampunkish magical-assassin game was released today, and already comparisons to the Thief and Deus Ex series’, as well as “game of the year” talk are being thrown around earnest.

To accompany the game’s launch, Bethesda has released one final trailer for the game, highlighting quotes from some of the outstanding reviews the game has been getting. It also shows many of the powers players can acquire during their playthrough and just how those powers can unleash destruction on unsuspecting guards and enemies.

What the trailer doesn’t show very well is that the game itself is very much stealth-based. Sure, players can rampage through the game, sliding their dagger into necks and calling on swarms of rats to devour guards, but the levels are designed for a more subtle, exploratory approach. For a look at how each of these styles of play will differ, check out the interactive trailer released by Bethesda last week, or the E3 walkthroughs that highlight both play styles.

Last week, 2K Games released an interactive trailer for XCOM: Enemy Unknown that allowed players to choose branching options and see the results. It’s not exactly a game demo, but it is the next best thing, and it vividly depicted how different play styles will affect that games’ turn-based combat.

Today, Bethesda has released an interactive trailer for Dishonored, its upcoming first-person supernatural assassin game set in a steampunk dystopia. The trailer, much like the XCOM one, allows players to choose how the gameplay video progresses at certain junctions. In the case of the first choice, players have the options to attack a couple of guards, sneak around them, or “blink” past them – sort of like teleporting. From there the choices and pathways branch out widely, and some can even lead to death.

The gameplay is from one of the early missions in the game, so expect a few minor spoilers from the video, seen below. If, however, you want even more background on Dishonored, check out the mini-web series called Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall, which hints at why the city players will find themselves in is in such disarray.

There is now less than one week until Dishonored hits store shelves on October 9th.

Bethesda today released the final episode of its short web series Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall. The episode, titled “In the Mind of Madness,” depicts the city of Dunwall as on the verge of collapse.

In the previous installments of the series, we’ve seen the rise and fall of Dunwall along with Esmund Rosenburrow, and seen a boy confront the authoritarian bullies of Dunwall while learning the danger that comes along with mysterious powers.

Today, gamers get a story that leads right up to the beginning of Dishonored. The story follows Piero, who’s dreams are disquieting and all-too-real. Obsessed with the assassination of the empress and spreading plague, he creates a mask. Those who have been following news about Dishonored will recognize the mask as the same one players will don as they take on the role of a supernatural assassin in Dishonored.

The web shorts were created by the Psyop production company and are narrated by Chloe Moretz of Kick Ass ans Let Me In fame.

Dishonored will be released in the U.S. on October 9th. That means there are less than two weeks left until we all find out if it’s as amazing as it looks.

The shorts have been animated by hand by the Psyop production company and layered with 3D elements.

Rather than make us wait weeks between new episodes, Bethesda has mercifully released the second episode of the series today.

The new tale follows a young boy in the time after Esmund Rosenburrow’s folly, when Dunwall has already began its decline into authoritarian barbarism. He is picked on by adults and peers alike. His only friend is a rat. When the boy is granted extraordinary powers from an “outsider,” he learns what it means not to live in fear.

Following the marketing trend of creating a web series that leads into the launch of a videogame, Bethesda today released the first in a three-part web series for the upcoming Dishonored.

Dishonored: The Tales From Dunwall is a series of animated prequels that tell a few of the stories that have shaped the Dunwall players will see in the game. Bethesda claims the episodes are primarily produced by hand, though enhanced with 3D elements “to add a painterly atmosphere, dimension, and depth to each shot. The stories are narrated by Chloe Moretz of Kick Ass and Let Me In fame.

The first tale in the series, seen below, follows the story of Esmund Roseburrow, a failed inventor who came to Dunwall and transformed it with technology. The video features a look at how Dunwall got its steampunk veneer and a glimpse at a character players are sure to come across during the game…
