While she gained fame for being married to Kurt Cobain, and then furthering said fame with the band Hole, it’s apparent Courtney Love is going down in history for something completely different: being the most sued person in relation to their Twitter account. After reaching a settlement with fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir earlier this year, Love is once again being sued for a tweet she issued concerning another business relationship.

While Love’s Twitter account is currently not incredibly interesting, unless you’re looking for some advice related to life skills, it’s clearly been the source for consternation for those who are involved with Love on a business level. Although Love’s tweets consist of this kind of content:
Whether it’s a verbal beatdown of the aforementioned fashion designer, leading the infamous settlement or complaining about previous business relationships with legal teams, it’s clear Love’s word carries a great deal of weight, and is apparently impossible to ignore.

Just ask Rhonda Holmes, who previously represented Love in a legal sense. According to reports, after Holmes refused to continue their business relationship, Love issued the following tweet:

I was f***ing devastated (sic) when Rhonda J Holmes Esq of San Diego was bought off [...]

And now she’s once again being taken to court over something she said on the Internet — with 140 characters or less! Holmes indicates Love’s tweet, as well as a follow-up interview where Love once again blasted Holmes, has severely damaged her legal career and her reputation. If this is indeed true, and not just a “I’ll show you” response, it means at least one thing I wasn’t aware of: Courtney Love’s opinion still matters.

The Hollywood Reporter’s post has some more details:

The complaint, filed by Holmes’ firm, alleges causes of action for libel, false light invasion of privacy and intentional interference with a prospective economic advantage. It seeks unspecified damages.

Considering Love’s luck with previous Twitter-related lawsuits, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if Love lost this and lost big. The previous tweet-based lawsuit she faced resulted in a settlement. It wouldn’t be surprising if, because of the initial incident, Love is even more severely punished for speaking her mind.

In light of all this, perhaps Love should limit herself to self-improvement and Kurt Cobain tweets.

Getting into Twitter spats can be an expensive undertaking, especially once you move away from common insults and arrive at the stage of libel and defamation.

Just ask Courtney Love.

Perhaps the most famous widow in music history had a rather amusing Twitter account (CourtneyLoveUK), which has since been removed; but during its reign, Love’s feed offered a great deal of value. Whether it was stream-of-conscious rants or almost-naked pictures, Love always had something for the masses.

That is, until, she got downright nasty with fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir, blasting Simorangkir with such gems like a “asswipe nasty, lying, hosebag thief”; or “a history of dealing cocaine”; and “lost all custody of her child”; as well as being convicted of “assault and burglary.”

As a response to Love’s kind compliments, Simorangkir filed a defamation suit against the Hole lead singer, and the results of the filing are in, and let’s just say Love’s comments about Simorangkir could very well go down as one of the most expensive tweets ever.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Love has agreed to pay the fashion designer $430,000.

Apparently, representing the celebrity who’s responsible for one of the more expensive tweets ever went to the head of Love’s attorney, James Janowitz, who offered this (misguided?) reaction about how pleased he was with the ruling:

“…because of the extended payout it’s a modest settlement. They got out with an amount that left them bragging rights but nothing else.”

Simorangkir’s legal team evidently wanted a higher sum, but had to settle for almost half a million dollars. One hopes that’s enough money to salve the wounds caused by Love’s Twitter rants.

Courtney Love, rock musician famous for being married to Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, is being sued for libel after tweeting some nasty things about her personal fashion designer.

In the lawsuit, the designer claims she stopped working for Love after the rock star failed to pay up for previous work. Soon after, Love tweeted to her follows that the designer was a “nasty, lying, hosebag thief,” that she had a history of dealing cocaine, lost custody of her child and was guilty of assault and burglary.

The suit also alleges Love commented on the designer’s business site, saying “The nastiest lying worst person I have ever known … evil incarnate, vile horrible lying bitch." The plaintiff claims Love’s remarks have devastated her business.

Love appears to tweet fairly constantly—just reading backward in time on her account will take one on a fairly weird and vulgar journey seeming to stretch out forever. Just try to get to the bottom of March 28 tweets and you’ll see what a daunting task it is to sift through the relative madness.

This isn’t the first time Love has made sensational claims or scathing remarks about people in cyberspace. Last summer, in a bizarre MySpace post no longer available, Love launched allegations against named accountants, managers, and lawyers she claimed embezzled $380 million from her.

While that post seems to have disappeared—the allegations were very specific and against some well known people—her most recent MySpace post continues the people-are-cashing-in-on-my-dead-husband’s-name trend. Love writes that identity thieves have been buying houses all over the country. She also claims there are only 27 Cobains in the country and none in Ohio or New Jersey.

A quick search through the Whitepages, though, brings back four Cobains in Ohio and two in New Jersey, though one supposes they could be bogus as well. Or it could be time for Ms. Love to seek professional help—at least in the form of ghost blogging/tweeting.

On her MySpace blog today, Courtney Love penned an erratic message to her fans detailing an elaborate-sounding embezzlement scheme by her management, which includes computer hacking and dummy corporations, to fleece her for $380 million. It’s unclear if what she posted is real, a joke, or off-the-deep-end crazy.

Littered by poor punctuation and spelling, the stream-of-consciousness post comes across as one written under some sort of duress. Phrases melt into other phrases without pause, and names blend with other names making it difficult to decipher in places. If written before MySpace, we might be reading letters cut out of newspaper.

The names, by the way, are definitely real, even if it’s not clear if what she is talking about is real. Love includes the names of banks, bankers, managers, and of…alternative country singer Ryan Adams, who makes a non sequitur appearance toward the end.

The message is made more interesting by the timing. Recently, Love reported the ashes of her late husband, Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain, were stolen from her home, leaving her reportedly suicidal in the wake of the grief. Police visited her home with the same 5150 order they used to take Britney Spears in for psychiatric treatment.

On May 24, a guest blogger, "Jason T.," blogged that Love had been the victim of identity theft recently and hinted that her daughter, Frances Bean, was in some sort of danger. Love herself followed up on May 30 with a smooth, level-headed post, promising to keep her "piehole shut" about it despite being very angry while working with the authorities.

Over the weekend, Love was seen being pushed around in a shopping cart because of a broken toe, which she calls on her blog "shopping toe," before launching into computer fraud and embezzlement schemes.

Here is a lengthy excerpt of text from the strange post, edited for content but not for language:

It’s hard to make of sense of that entirely, but it doesn’t sound good. Here’s what Google brings back for some of those of names, which may or may not be the ones to whom Love is referring:
