Plenty of people are excited about the future of 3D printing, but not many events are solely dedicated to the technology. Sure, there’s the Maker Faire and Euromold, but those events cover much more than just 3D printing. That’s all going to change in April.

WebMediaBrands announced that its hosting the inaugural Inside 3D Printing Conference and Expo in New York City this year. The event will take place on April 22-23, and feature the latest and greatest innovations in 3D printing. The conference will be chaired by 3D printing expert Dr. Hod Lipson of Cornell University.

“Inside 3D Printing is the first U.S. event to delve into the present and future of the business impact of 3D printing,” stated Alan M. Meckler, Chairman and CEO of WebMediaBrands. “3D printing has become the next great technological disruptive force in the field of ‘making things’ and according to a recent article in The Economist, 3D printing ‘could well rewrite the rules of manufacturing in much the same way as the PC trashed the traditional world of computing.’”

Of course, it’s a little unfair that East Coast folks get to have all the fun 3D printing fun. Worry not, as WebMediaBrands intends to bring a similar show to Santa Clara, CA in September of this year.

In short, 3D printing now has two events dedicated to it coming this year. It’s really gratifying to see a technology finally get its own conference, and getting two in the same year is even better. It just goes to show that 3D printing is being taken very seriously now.

You can find out more about the conference at the official Web site. The event is looking for exhibitors and sponsors now so interested parties will want to sign up before it’s too late.

UPDATE: Commenter Duncan Wood points out that the Inside 3D Printing Conference and Expo is not the first of its kind in the U.S. If you want more 3D printing madness, you’ll want to check out RAPID and AMUG. The latter will be holding its conference a week before WebMediaBrands’. RAPID’s conference will be in June.

Until now, GameStop’s annual EXPO conference has been exclusively for GameStop employees. Today, GameStop has announced it is opening up the conference to a wider audience. Members of GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program are invited to attend the conference, which will be be held in San Antonio, Texas on August 29. EXPO will feature pre-release video game demos and previews, contests, and sessions with video game publishers and “special guests.”

In addition to the general admission tickets sold for $35, GameStop is offering VIP admission for $100. Both are available for purchase with a credit card or with PowerUp Rewards points. VIP attendees will gain access to VIP lines for autographs and signings, access to a VIP gaming lounge, and admission to up to four General Sessions. The General Sessions will grant in-depth looks at upcomming games. Confirmed General Session presenters include Warner Bros., Namco Bandai, Ubisoft, and Square Enix.

Two quick notes for those of you already packing your bags for San Antonio. The conference will only be one day long for PowerUp Rewards members, and only five hours long. That’s certainly not enough time to experience everything at the conference, and might not be worth a cross-country trip. Also, the conference won’t be a big cosplay event. No weapons or items that can be “construed as a weapon” will be allowed in.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud services division, has announced it is sponsoring a new technology conference surrounding AWS technologies and solutions. The conference will take place in Las Vegas on Novermber 27-29 of this year. The conference will educate attendees about AWS services in over 100 sessions led by AWS engineers, architects, partners, and customers. Registration for the conference will open sometime in June.

The website for the event indicates that the conference is primarily for three types of AWS users: developers, enterprise IT, and start-ups. Developers can attend “getting started” sessions for a variety of different languages or attend advanced sessions focusing on architecture, monitoring, configuration management, and performance optimization. Enterprise IT can study app migration, APIs, and best practices for cloud security, among other topics. Start-ups can launch their companies in the conference’s “start-up launch theatre” where VCs, analysts, and the press will be in attendance.

AWS has been consistently making announcements and launching new features and services in recent months. Most recently, AWS rolled out its CloudSearch service, the new AWS Marketplace, and a partner network program. Jeff Barr, an AWS “evangelist,” announced the new conference on the AWS blog and stated that AWS re: Invent would not be a “stuffy vendor conference.” From the blog post:

I want to emphasize that this is not going to be one of those stuffy vendor conferences. I don’t want to give away any secrets but you can rest assured that this is something you don’t want to miss.

We are planning to keep you well informed, well fed, entertained, and fully engaged for the duration of the conference. There will be a wealth of opportunities for you to learn more about AWS, forge some connections with the service teams, meet others in the community and see what they are up to. You might need a vacation after this – it is Vegas after all and Vegas (and the Cloud) never sleeps.

What do you think? Are you already booking your flight to Vegas? Don’t think you need any AWS pointers? Couldn’t care less about Amazon’s cloud services? Leave a comment below and let us know.

At the LeWeb conference in Paris Twitter is busy making sure that all the developments in the real-time search and social media world aren’t just coming from the Googleplex. Maybe it’s the end of the year rush or it’s the need to create excitement going into 2010 since 2009 was a rough year for many. Whatever the reason the news is fast and furious inthe space in general.

Twitter’s busy letting the world in on the sheer volume of apps that have been developed for the service and how they are going to help foster more growth in the near future. TechCrunch is convering the event and tells us

Twitter’s Director of Platform Ryan Sarver just took the stage at LeWeb a couple of minutes ago, and shared some announcements with the audience about the future of the platform and the effect this will have on the ecosystem.

He also shared a milestone for the company: Sarver said 50,000 registered applications to date have been built using Twitter APIs.

The roadmap ahead:

Transparency: “we need to be more public about our policy and intentions”
Communication: “we need to be out there and let our developers know what’s going on”
Utility: “we need to keep providing our robust APIs and enable third-party developers to thrive”
Profitability: “when our partners succeed, we succeed” (more details coming early 2010)

Of course, since this is Twitter most people will laser in on the P word (profitability). Some of the significant ‘details’ around these areas is that everyone will have full access to the data stream in 2010 (what that actually means is TBD). Look for a new website for developers with dashboards and the like for the development community.

Also, as a sign that the development of apps is truly a big deal there will be a Twitter developer conference in 2010 called Chirp in San Francisco next year

The conference, which will be geared towards developers, is likely to be similar in some ways to Facebook’s F8 conference that is held each year in San Francisco. Not too many details were given but there is a landing page up already for the event (which is scheduled to take place sometime in 2010).

So Twitter continues to flourish and develop to try to handle the continued growth despite some concern about visitor fall off recently. I suspect that some of the developers are the very reason for this ‘concern’ as many people access Twitter through third party apps to begin with and those growing numbers are not tracked by these number crunching entities.

Looks like 2010 is going to be another big year for Twitter.

As part of the Internet marketing industry have you done the conference circuit? Have you been to SES, SMX (put cardinal direction here), Adtech, PubCon etc, etc? On a yearly basis how many of these trips can you justify or get away with? Well, with shrinking budgets everywhere now you have to add the new spate of Twitter conferences to your hit list of things you absolutely have to do to get out of the office learn more about the industry.

TechCrunch tells us of the growing list of conferences that are starting to sprout up as a result of the use of (or confusion around the use of) Twitter for business purposes.

It looks like the trend of Twitter conferences is growing, with more events popping up around the country. As we’ve said in the past and will continue to say, there are tremendous opportunities for businesses, brands, non-profits and individuals to use Twitter as a tool for customer support, fund raising, brand management, advertising, job search and much more.

I have not attended one but I can imagine they must be pretty quiet because everyone is likely to be talking to everyone but those right in front of them. I gotta tell ya that when someone tweets that they are talking to someone I wonder if they are even listening to them or concentrating on their 140 characters of brilliance they are allowing the rest of their audience to ingest.

Of course, if you attended the 140 Character Conference in New York in June the venue itself (which was literally underground) forced Twitterheads to actually listen to others since there was practically no connectivity for the attendees.

Twitter is so fascinating in that it appears that so many folks are finding ways to monetize the service without the service monetizing itself. At least with Google (which face it, is why most of these conferences exist in the first place) makes money and knows that these conferences will only help it make more.

So if you are tired of the usual shows and you need more opportunities to ‘network’ then think about these:

TWTRCN 09 DC- for non profits and government types. October 22 in Washington, DC.

140 Twitter Conference / LA – Endorsed by Biz Stone. Need we say more? September in Los Angeles (for those who didn’t get the LA part of the title).

140 Characters Twitter Conference – Jeff Pulver’s deal goes west coast on October 27th in Los Angeles.

Cool Twitter Conferences- Apparently this is a traveling road show that has stops scheduled in Boston and San Francisco.

So don’t miss your chance to blow off work get out and learn more about Twitter and the future of communications. Hotel bars in the areas of these meetings can’t wait to serve you!

I wonder how many people reading this blog right now work for a company that:

1) Doesn’t have a blog
2) Has a blog but it’s on life support
3) Is considering blogging but not sure where to start
4) Has been blogging for a while, but wants to make it to the next level

Well, I’ve got some really good news. On the heels of the OMMA New York conference Sept 18-19 comes Blog World Expo in Las Vegas Sept 20-21. What better place to have the world’s largest conference dedicated to blogging than the city that never sleeps because most of the active bloggers I know don’t sleep either.

TopRank has been tasked to source speakers and moderate a panel at Blog World Expo on “Search Engine Optimization and New Media”.
I’m really looking forward to the session with Michael, Brian and Stephen as well as connecting with a ton of other like minded blogging types including:

Stephanie Agresta, Lisa Barone, David Berkowitz, Rohit Bhargava, Toby Bloomberg,Susan Bratton, Michael Brito, Chris Brogan, Rich Brooks, Rick Calvert, Valerie Combs,Paul Chaney, Jason Falls, Steve Hall, Tris Hussey, Guy Kawasaki, Jim Kukral, Scott Monty, Elisa Camahort Page, Steve Rubel, Muhammad Saleem, Jeremy Schoemaker,Robert Scoble, Brian Solis, Dave Taylor, Robyn Tippins, Denise Wakeman, Des Walsh, Kristie Wells and even more new people I haven’t met yet.

This will be my first time attending Blog World Expo and I can tell by the content lineup, speakers, sponsors and the past attendees I’ve talked to, that it’s going to be one heck of an event. I’ll be doing some blogging during the event, so be sure to watch for a series of posts.
