Google Presents Seven Cities In 3D

Here's a bit of news that belongs in some strange borderland between cutting-edge technology and the plot of a "Corner Gas" episode: seven local governments have worked with Google to publish 3D models of their cities.

Google Cities in 3D hasn't been a strictly American affair; models of cities in Ireland and Japan, among other places, have shown up.  Google's encouraging greater participation on the part of the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France, however, with the launch of some localized websites.

It may be necessary to stop using words like "neat" and "cool"; it's possibly time to put on a tie.  A new push involving Google Earth stresses all the practical (and somewhat implausible) reasons cities should create 3D models of themselves.
