According to the Chicago Tribune, the victims included teens, including a 16-year-old who tried to flee from a gunman riding a bicycle. The youngest victim was 15-year-old Michael Westley, who was gunned down by police on Sunday night. Police stated what Westley was armed, and pointed a gun a them.

The shootings are being attributed to gang violence, though some of those injured were shot by police attempting to contain the violence. In addition to the teens, a 40-year-old man was killed in a nightclub shooting in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood, and a 21-year-old man was shot dead in southwest Chicago. A 19-year-old male was also found dead on a sidewalk in Englewood early Sunday morning. The first murder of the weekend occurred on Friday in the west Chicago neighborhood of Austin, where 21-year-old Ricardo Herrera was shot and killed.

Despite the high level of violence this weekend, Chicago Police tried to reassure the public, stating that progress is being made to curb violent crime in the city. At around the same time last year, 53 people were injured and nine were fatally shot in a similar rash of shootings.

Jeremy Walker, State Attorney for rural Randolph County, said he would not prosecute anyone charged with the possession of guns in public.

Until recently, Illinois was the only state in the nation that prohibited its citizens from carrying concealed weapons. The Illinois General Assembly recently voted to allow state residents to carry guns in public and Gov. Pat Quinn, a Chicago Democrat, is weighing whether to sign it into law.

Walker is the second county prosecutor in Illinois to publicly state that he will not prosecute concealed carriers. He joins the State Attorney for Madison County in stepping out ahead of the Governor’s decision.

A growing number of local officials across the nation are engaging in similar civil disobedience to protest calls for greater gun control. In January, Sheriff Stacy Nicholson of Georgia’s Gilmer County wrote on Facebook that he has no “intention of following any orders of the federal government to perform any act which would be considered to be unlawful.” Nicholson was referring to any federal or state gun-control measure that curbed Second Amendment rights. A law-enforcement group based in Texas is campaigning among sheriffs nationwide to persuade them to join public opposition to gun control laws. The group aims to recruit at least 1,200 of the nation’s 31,000 sheriffs.

Gov. Quinn has indicated strong opposition to the legislation, Senate Bill 2193, saying in a statement released by his office following its passage, “This legislation is wrong for Illinois. It was wrong yesterday in committee, it’s wrong today, and it’s wrong for the future of public safety in our state. …I will not support this bill and I will work with members of the Illinois Senate to stop it in its tracks,” he said.

Under the previous Illinois law, the right to carry a concealed weapon was limited to police, security guards, hunters and members of target shooting clubs.

The legislation now awaiting Gov. Quinn’s signature would ban the carrying of concealed guns in public spaces including schools and parks, as well as in bars where more than 50 percent of sales are from liquor. Permits to carry concealed weapons would be provided to people who pass a background check and have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.

With high rates of gun violence in roiling Chicago, Illinois has attracted much attention in the national gun control debate.

“Version 2 of the iOS application offers users the ability to sign documents offline, automatically sync them back to cloud and have access to all of their critical documents regardless of location,” a spokesperson for Adobe tells us. “The app also features a completely redesigned user interface for sending, signing and managing transactions. ”

The app is available in the App Store.

New features for the web version of EchoSign include the ability to create dynamic contracts with real-time calculations, as well as the ability to zoom in and out during signing and form field authoring and some brand enhancements.

“With this release, the already customizable and easy electronic signing experience has been improved to better align with the customers brand and business processes when getting documents signed,” the company says.

Adobe also announced plans for a multi-million dollar data center, which will open in Chicago this summer. The data center is designed to help support growing customer demand for EchoSign, the company says.

Fox News reports that Ata Yousef El Ammouri, 65, was on his way back to the states for his grandchild’s graduation ceremony. Upon landing at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, he was arrested by police for a murder he allegedly committed in 1979.

To rewind, El Ammouri ran a convenience store in Chicago in the 70s. On July 22, 1979, Al Ammouri allegedly shot and killed 31-year-old Joe Harris after he stole a can of beer.

El Ammouri was arrested on a murder charge, but he immediately posted bail. After that, he fled the country and has been until now. Now that he’s back in the states, he will be facing the original murder charge as well as a charge for jumping bail.

The sheriff who arrested El Ammouri – Tom Dart – said his arrest should send a strong signal to those who try to skip out of town after being arrested. He said the “passage of time does not erase our commitment to bringing fugitives to justice.”

The AP reports that 6 people were killed and another 11 wounded in a string of gun violence that took place over the weekend in Chicago. On Friday, a 17-year-old and a 22-year-old were both killed in separate shootings. Then an 18-year-old and a 29-year-old were killed as a result of gun violence.

After two days of gun violence resulting in deaths, Chicago still couldn’t breathe easy. On Sunday morning, a 42-year-old man was shot in the head after a vehicle crash. The woman in his vehicle was taken to a hospital. In a separate event, a man in his late 20s was shot in the armpit and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

It should be noted that none of these deaths are likely related. If anything, Chicago found itself with an incredibly violent weekend. Unfortunately, it’s not anything new for residents of Chicago as people are sometimes killed by stray bullets from gang wars. The most recent being a 6-month-old child that was shot and killed by such a stray bullet.

The Chicago Fox station is reporting that Jonylah Watkins was shot five times as her father, Jonathan, changed her diaper in the front seat of a minivan. Jonathan was also shot, but is expected to recover from his wounds. The shooting took place in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood.

Though the police told Fox that they are investigating multiple possibilities, they also stated that the shooting had “very strong gang overtones. Jonathan Watkins has more than 30 arrests on record.

“Regardless of who you are or regardless of what your role is as an adult, everybody has a role to play to make sure every child is in a safe city, in a safe neighborhood, and in a safe community on a safe street like other parts of our city,” said Rahm Emanuel, mayor of Chicago.

The football player has allegedly not filed federal income tax returns for “over four years.”

Zorich played for Notre Dame in college and was an All-American before being drafted to the NFL in 1991. He played for the Chicago Bears until 1997, and then capped off his NFL career with one year with the Washington Redskins in 1997. Zorich was a member of the 1988 Notre Dame football team that went undefeated and won the National Championship.

An attorney for Zorich told the AP that he would be pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts for not filing tax returns between 2006 and 2009. Each misdemeanor count has a maximum one year prison sentence and $100,000 fine. The former athlete is alleged to have made over $1 million during that time, including income from the Christopher Zorich Foundation, a charity he founded in 1993 to help disadvantaged families.

In 2010, the Chicago Tribune reported that over $850,000 was missing from the Christopher Zorich Foundation, and that the organization had not filed taxes since 2003. Late last year, Zorich agreed to pay nearly $350,000 in unaccounted-for funds back to his charity after an Illinois Attorney General investigation.

More than 850 flights out of Chicago O’Hare International have been cancelled and Midway Airport has cancelled at least 230 flights.

The cancellations come as a winter storm is beginning to drop snow on the city. The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting up to 12 inches of snow could fall the Chicago area today.

The NWS has also issued a winter storm warning and a hazardous weather outlook for the greater Chicago area that lasts until midnight. From the NWS warning:

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. CONSIDER ONLY TRAVELING IF IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL…KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT… FOOD…AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

Schools throughout Chicago were closed or closed early today. The Tribune report states that the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation has been salting the roads in and around the city since early this morning, and the Illinois Tollway has snowplows standing by.

Parents of children who attend one of the many schools in the Chicago Public Schools system were inadvertently directed to a soft-core adult site, after the school system sent out a mass email containing one slightly altered link.

The point of the email was to notify parents that CPS was raising their standards when it comes to the Illinois Standards Achievement Test, or ISAT. The new standards for the ISAT are being implemented by the Illinois State Board of Education, or ISBE.

A link at the conclusion of the email wanted to direct parents to the ISBE site more more information. Instead, the addition of one extra letter wound up directing parents to ISBEL.com, which happens to be a “private invite only community” with the goal of “enriching the modern woman’s sex life and sensuality.”

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on who you ask), the site’s home page only features an artistic photo of an open Kama Sutra book, placed on a bed. No real hardcore porn stuff or anything.

But of course, CPS had to make a public apology.

“As soon as it was brought to our attention, we sent out an updated letter with a corrected link and apologized for any inconvenience it may have caused,” said a spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools system.

Let’s just see how many parents come out and say they were scarred by CPS’ carelessness. Maybe their kids even saw the landing page. THE CHILDREN! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

You may or may not have heard that they’re now offering them in more locations.

According to the Associated Press, the fast food chain is pressing on with an expanded test of the offering, but has yet to confirm a full U.S. launch. The wings hit Chicago this week, reportedly, in three-piece, five-piece and ten-piece options.

As a longtime chicken wing fan, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around this offering not being a hot seller, warranting a wider release, but of course, it has to make financial sense for the company. Then, I suppose, there’s always the question of whether or not people really want their chicken wings from the restaurant more known for burgers and McNuggets.
