I saw an old episode of “Cheers” the other night; in it, a woman repeatedly sang her phone number to Frasier, and (much to Lilith’s dismay) Norm, Cliff, and Woody took up the tune. Believe it or not, this does (sort of) relate to eBusiness – a new study found that “Multiple Online Ad Placements Impress.”

eMarketer tips its hat to the Atlas Institute after making this statement. The organization “found that US consumers were more likely to convert after viewing ads on multiple Web sites, suggesting that conversions should be attributed to a full set of impressions and/or clicks, rather than just the single one that preceded the conversion.”

And those findings were pretty conclusive – “[n]ine in 10 consumers who converted were reached by placements other than the last ad seen,” according to the Institute.

Yet a bit of common sense may be necessary here. After all, Lilith didn’t smile when the guys began singing – she lunged at them. Similarly (again, sort of), eMarketer admits, “Of course, multiple placements are not right for every campaign, and they are not always easy to make.”

This next line is even less related to my “Cheers” analogy, but it’s still worth reading: “A June 2006 study by WebAdvantage.net found that 79% of experienced online video ad buyers were very or somewhat concerned about sizing ads for multiple placements.”

Perhaps that speaks to the difficulty Frasier’s first wife might have had in composing her song. In any event, it seems that multiple ad placements are well worth looking into.

Ol’ Mr. Anonymous himself, Google Guy, addressing the concerns of Googlites everywhere spilled a few hint-drops about the current algorithm update, codenamed “Bourbon.” This here Kentucky boy accepts the nod.

<img src="http://www.webpronews.com/images/060205google_business.gif" alt="Clink. Google Guy Spills Bourbon.

Editor’s Note: The Bourbon update is underway at Google. Have you guys experienced any fluctuations? GoogleGuy suggests letting this play out before you panic. Discuss your thoughts about the update at WebProWorld.

In a thread run on WebMasterWorld entitled “Questions For Google Guy,” GG offered up this advice:

“Here’s the advice that I’d give now: take a break from checking ranks for several more days. Bourbon includes something like 3.5 improvements in search quality, and I believe that only a couple are out so far. The 0.5 will go out in a day or so, and the last major change should roll out over the next week or so.

“Then there will still be some minor changes after that as well. So my “weather report” along the lines of http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000095.html would be a recommendation that rankings may still change somewhat over the next several days.”

Lee Odden helped point out a few more interesting posts among a thread that runs longer than a Nazarene dinner prayer.

“I’ve been aching for a long time to mention somewhere official that sites shouldn’t use “&id=” as a parameter if they want maximal Googlebot crawlage”

“We only export new visible PageRanks every 3-4 months or so”

“I recommend absolute links instead of relative links, because there’s less chance for a spider (not just Google, but any spider) to get confused.”

“My opinion is that spam is getting hit faster, and that for the rest of this year, it will continue to get harder to spam.”

Once again, GG you’ve aided Googledom in escaping the clutches of presumptivitis. Cheers, big ears.
