Shortly thereafter, Anthony effectively disappeared from the news’ eye, although, there were sightings of her in various parts of the country. Ohio State fans, in particular, took notice of a specific Anthony sighting, but by and large, she’s disappeared from the public’s eye. Until now.

That’s right, the ex-mom you love to hate has surfaced again, this time in a YouTube video, doing what appears to be the first in a series of video blogs. While the video is dated 10/13/2011, it was only discovered recently; and now, the mainstream media news cycle has a hold of it, which means welcome back, Casey.

Just when you thought she was gone, too. Here’s the video that’s burning up the media:

As for the video’s YouTube uploader — therealcptsonyablade — it was stated that they found the video an uploaded it, meaning it’s doubtful Anthony is the one who put it on YouTube. In fact, the uploader explains how they acquired the video in question in the video’s comments:

I’m not Casey Anthony or trying to impersonate her… I just found the video and posted it… SMDH…

She blew up on Buzzfeed, and, of course, Twitter. Granted, it wasn’t all flowers and sunshine in regards to the reaction, but once again, the mom Nancy Grace loves to hate is in the public eye, although she was trying to be somewhat low-key by donning an Ohio State Buckeyes cap.

Because of that, Ohio State fans are pissed. So much so, in fact, one Buckeye fan, radio personality Jimmy Jam from the “Dave and Jimmy” show offered Anthony $10,000 to wear a different hat, but not just any hat in particular. No sir, there’s entirely too much sports rivalry bad blood to reward her for simply switching hats.

No, in order to receive the money, Anthony has to switch to a Michigan hat. The Michigan Wolverines are, of course, blood rivals with the Ohio State Buckeyes, making the intentions of the offer quite clear:

Dear Ohio State fans, get over yourselves. It’s clear the Jim Tressel/Terrelle Pryor debacle has left deep, ugly scars on your psyche, but drawing attention to the fact Anthony is wearing attire that represents the same school you support reeks of desperation. Simply enjoy the fact that Michigan hasn’t beaten the Buckeyes since 2003, and move on, and let Casey Anthony rot in anonymity. By calling her out like this, you’re only keeping her in the public eye, which will only increase her marketability.

It figures an Ohio State fan would make Casey Anthony a sympathetic figure. Just get over it and get ready for the upcoming football season, although, the Buckeye nation probably won’t enjoy it as much as seasons past. Having your program gutted by Terrelle Pryor’s tattoos can ruin what was otherwise a rosy outlook.

Anthony’s haberdashery choice didn’t go unnoticed by the University in question, either. In fact, Ohio State addressed the non-issue:

A rep for the university tells TMZ, “We are never surprised to see Buckeye pride displayed across the world. Buckeye hoodies and hats have traditionally been spotted across the world, and we understand that as a result, our logo will be seen in a wide range of news situations, whether positive or negative.”

Folks, if you don’t want Casey Anthony associated with OSU, here’s a tip: IGNORE HER. The media cycle, because of the influence of social media, is so fast now, if the issue was ignored, people would have already forgotten Anthony was in Ohio State apparel. Now, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if her association sticks.

O-H-I-O, indeed.

In other news, if a Michigan fan doubled the offer, and bought her an entire Ohio State wardrobe to boot, it would be quite fitting. If she plays her cards right, Casey Anthony could make a nice little chunk of change playing both sides of the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry fence.

What’s more is that there was a live Twitter stream going on throughout the trial as well as journalists tweeting from inside the courtroom. The impact of social media has been so significant that one cannot help but wonder how much influence it will have on the legal system going forward.

The latest Casey Anthony craze on Twitter is in regards to her release. People want to know where she is, what she’s doing, and what her next move is.

Juliet Huck, a persuasive communications expert that has worked on cases involving Scott Peterson and Kobe Bryant, told us that there was a great irony with social media in regards to Casey Anthony. She explained that even though social media has given everyone a voice, it still gives people with a wall to hide behind.

“It’s very interesting how the change of technology has given more people the ability to speak up, yet the problem with that is they get to hide behind it,” she said. “It’s just such a fascinating time right now because it does allow people that are not out in the public eye to speak what they want, which I think is great, [but] at the same time, it’s based on an opinion versus on fact.”

With the Casey Anthony case, in particular, and probably with more cases going forward, it has also been fascinating to see how people really believed that their opinion could impact the outcome of the trial. While these opinions can bring about influence, Huck said that they can’t change the law.

Unless something drastically changes, she told us that the law and public opinion would remain completely separate, in spite of how loud the public might be.

“Basically, what you’re going to end up with is a lot of public opinion over here and a law over here,” she said. “The way people are communicating is never going to change the law, unless people speak up to change the law.”

“The public opinion on this case is, obviously, so massive… but there is a system, there is a law, and law is not based on your personal judgment,” she added.

Are people forgetting about the law in Casey Anthony’s case?

Anthony was serving time for the lesser guilty verdicts she received for giving police false information, and will be released, free to resume her ever so public life. That being said, if Twitter is any kind of indication, it will be some time before anyone forgets why she’s famous. It’s hard to imagine all of the “amateur journalist” pictures that will show up the first time Anthony parties with her pals, if there are any remaining.

Needless to say, once news of her release hit the airwaves, Twitter responded in kind. Mind you, not “kind” as in friendly or caring, either. Most of the responses are about what you’d expect, although, the people who are trying to capitalize on her popularity by issuing dating site-style tweets and making misguided signs are just as interesting. Starting us off on this trip down Casey Anthony Reaction Lane is Perez Hilton (what the hell happened to him?) with the kind of reaction you’d expect:

If this is what things are like when the news of Anthony’s release breaks, what’s it going to be like next Wednesday when she’s a free woman? Will she even make it through the day?

The latest incident comes courtesy of Entenmann’s, maker of some fantastic donuts and other bakery items, and the Casey Anthony trial. As WebProNews’ coverage indicated, the Anthony verdict caused so much reaction on Twitter, not to mention an almost constant switching of the most popular Twitter trends, it was almost impossible to keep up with the deluge of tweets being posted. Unfortunately for Entenmann’s, one of their tweets did not escape the Internet’s watchful eye — of which, there are plenty.

One of the popular trends after the Anthony verdict was for the #notguilty hashtag, which was par for the course. People jumped on and shared their opinion about the trial, which is standard fare in today’s world. However, during the tidal wave of related tweets, Entenmann’s Twitter account tweeted the following, which has since been deleted:

“Who’s #notguilty about eating all the tasty treats they want?!”

While the tweet should probably be considered insensitive, especially towards the memory of Caylee Anthony, as Twitter screw ups go, Entenmann’s was fairly mild. That, however, did not stop them from total capitulation, which including putting the company they hired to handle their social media activity — Likeable Media — on notice. The result was an avalanche of apologetic tweets from the Entenmann’s account, and a post from Likeable, explaining the reason for the unfortunate tweet.

Simply put, Likeable didn’t understand the meaning of the hashtag and was simply following the crowd:

The truth is, our team was leveraging the trending topics and moving so fast they neglected to see what the hashtag was related to. It was obviously insensitive, and on behalf of the entire Likeable team and our client, Entenmann’s, I’m sorry. Please know that I am working on refining our process to ensure that this does not happen again.

The question is, is that a legitimate excuse for a Twitter failure? I mean, if you’re going to post something that leverages a trending topic, shouldn’t you know what the hashtag is referring to? Furthermore, if that was indeed the reason behind the Entenmann’s tweet, why are there no tweets related to the never-ending popularity of the #riseandgrind trend? That topic falls in line with products Entenmann’s offers, but yet, no related tweets.

Another discussion for another time, apparently.

It’s hard not to wonder if Entenmann’s is going to retain Likeable Media for future social media endeavors? When a company is reduced to making these kinds of Twitter posts:

One would think the professional relationship that caused these unfortunately necessary reactions would come to an end.

Apparently, Grace said something along the lines of “of course the jury is going to find her guilty” or something similar. Now, it seems like a lot of users on Twitter are actually satisfied with the verdict, if, for nothing else, than to see how Grace will react. Shortly after the verdict was announced, Nancy Grace was listed on the Twitter trends list, and the resulting tweets about her reaction were awfully biting, if not downright disturbing; but that’s what you get when you put yourself out in front of the firing line with a “I’m infallible” type of approach.

It’s Nancy Grace’s world, if only for people wanting to see her react to the Anthony verdict. There’s been a couple of update posts on her Facebook page, but nothing representing the white-hot reaction many are expecting. It should make for some entertaining television viewing. It should be noted that while Grace and Anthony should be considered winners after the verdict, so far, there’s only one loser, and it’s one who should not be forgotten:

Caylee Anthony.

The jury of 7 women and 5 men returned with not guilty verdicts for all the most serious charges of first-degree murder, child abuse and manslaughter of a child. The jury did find Anthony guilty of four counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

Those counts are all misdemeanors.

To say that the verdict is shocking is an understatement. Most would agree that her fate had been sealed by the incredibly short deliberations by the jury. Common knowledge dictates that a quick verdict in a case like this usually means guilty.

But the jury felt that the prosecution failed to prove their case on the most serious charges, and Casey Anthony will presumably go free. Her sentencing will take place Thursday morning, but she isn’t expected to serve much more jail time if any for the 4 lesser convictions. Author and lawyer Jeffery Toobin said on CNN earlier that he would be shocked if Casey Anthony is forced to serve any jail time.

As you would expect, Twitter has erupted in a way I haven’t personally seen since Michael Jackson died. Almost every trending topic is related to the Casey Anthony decision. I think the funniest trend is “Law Abiding Citizen,” which from what I can tell is tending due to a quote from the film – “It’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove in court.” Sure seems to apply here.
