Video search engine Blinkx announced the launch of my blinkx.tv today, a new service aimed at enabling users to aggregate video content into a single customized stream to play on demand.

AtomFilms jumped off the deep end and into the search engine oceans, signing a deal with SingingFish, AOL and Blinkx to distribute their short films. This will unload a few million viewers on AtomFilms’ bandwagon with each company promoting the content for viewing.

Video search engine blinxk and online film company AtomFilms spliced together an agreement putting over 1000 AtomFilms short film and animation titles into blinkx search. This will much to blinkx, including some of AtomFilm’s award winning fare.

The boys and girls and blinkx said they’ve added a few new friends to their list, doubling the number of content partners and in the process, adding quite a bit of video content to their already large database.

Last week the big news was that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp was in talks to acquire an established but unnamed entity.

Media Monster Rupert Murdoch said he wanted in on the search business and he might just be getting there. The LA Times reported Monday that Murdoch’s News Corp. is negotiating for the acquisition of Blinkx, a media based search engine.

Today, Blinkx debuted SmartFeed, the newest feature to their search service, which focuses more and more on the rich media aspect of search. Initially, blinkx launched with the intention of developing a strong presence in the desktop search field, which has since become watered down.

Audio and video content delivered from a variety of sources will be available to users of the Blinkx service.

According to blinkx founder Suranga Chandratillake, podcasting is one of the fastest growing mediums ever, with large amounts of new content coming out daily. Insight into Suranga’s mindset sheds light on the reasoning behind the newest feature to be integrated into the blinkx search engine: the ability to search podcasts.

Because a successful video search presence places most, if not all, of its hopes on a comprehensive search index, partnerships and agreements that can increase searchable content are vitally important.

Much ado was made about the launches of Google Video and Yahoo Video Search. However, there was an upstart service, called blinkx TV, which beat both of the search giants to the punch.
