What happens when you accidentally spill your beer on your wife while trying to protect her from a wayward ball to the face? If you’re one man, you get a drink dumped on you.

A woman was caught on camera throwing her (expensive) beer on her hubs while they were watching a Cubs game on Sunday after he did just that. Apparently the woman was upset at getting wet and said she couldn’t resist a little payback.

“I just got livid,’ the woman, identified only as Ellen, said. ‘And I took my beer and splooshed it in his face. I figured if I’m wet, he might as well be wet too.”

Her husband took it in stride; the couple was all smiles after the game.

It seems to be inspiring the community. The top comment from user euphwes says, “This is actually pretty clever. My daughter is on the bottle now, I’ll arrange another ‘on the bottle’ picture to happen 20 years from now too.”

At least the plan involves letting the kid grow up first.

Budweiser is looking to celebrate its iconic logo with a new can design this Spring. The Anheuser-Busch brand will unveil a new bowtie-shaped can on May 6th.

The can, will be a few drop short of the full 12-ounce can you’re used to – clocking in at 11.3 ounces. With the fewer ounces of beer comes fewer calories per can – 8.5 fewer to be exact.

“This can is certainly a conversation starter: eye-catching, easy-to-grip, trendy and – according to our research – very appealing to young adults,” Budweiser innovation head Pat McGauley said. “It’s a beer can like no other.”

“This can is incomparable, like nothing you’ve ever seen before,” said Pat McGauley, vice president of innovation for Anheuser-Busch. “The world’s most iconic beer brand deserves the world’s most unique and innovative can. I think we have it here.”

The cans will come in 8-packs.

Of course, the bowtie can resembles the long-time Budweiser logo, and that was the goal.

“Though there is no written documentation on the origins of the Budweiser bowtie, it is a brand icon found the world over. According to company lore, the bowtie was introduced when too many people were using the “Bud” bar call too frequently, so the double triangles were added to emphasize the full Budweiser name,” says Budweiser.

Reuters is reporting that seven people have died in a brewery accident in Mexico City. Beer company Grupo Modelo stated that seven workers were killed in an accident involving a tank that was being cleaned and receiving maintenance. The details of the accident have not been released.

According to the report, a Grupo Modelo spokesperson stated that, “Modelo is deeply sorry for this accident and will support the affected families permanently.”

Grupo Modelo is the maker of beer that included Modelo, Pacífico, and Corona. Corona is the best-selling beer from Mexico, and the top imported beer in the U.S. Last summer, Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) announced that it would fully acquire Modelo for just over $20 billion. ABI is the maker of the best-selling U.S. beer, Bud Light.

In January 2013, the U.S. Justice Department filed a civil antitrust lawsuit to block the merger. The Justice Department claims that the U.S. beer market is highly concentrated, with 39% of beer sales in 2012 going to ABI, and another 7% going to Modelo. There is worry that ABI, which is a price leader for the U.S. beer industry, is seeking to eliminate competition from Modelo, which “aggressively” prices its imports.

Well, cider ads to be more precise.

Less apps, more apples. That’s the tagline for Somersby Cider, the new cider brand from Carlsberg, who just released the beverage’s first U.K. advert. In it, fans eagerly await the opening of a minimalistic store so they can be the first to experience the new product.

Sound like anything familiar? Cider. Apples. Apple. There you go.

Part homage and part ridicule, the new ad for Somersby Cider looks and sounds like a cross between an actual Apple ad and those Samsung ads that lampooned Apple fanboys. Anyway, check it out below:

“Justin Timberlake is one of the greatest creative minds in the entertainment industry, and his insights will help us further define Bud Light Platinum’s identity in the lifestyle space,” said Paul Chibe, vice president of U.S. marketing, Anheuser-Busch. “Since launching Bud Light Platinum last year, we’ve worked to align the brand closely with music, including leveraging tracks by Kanye West and Avicii in our first ads. Partnering with Justin as he makes his return to music brings a new level of relevance and credibility to the brand.”

The partnership was developed with ad agency, Translation. It begins with the Grammy Awards this Sunday with a sixty-second Bud Light Platinum ad, called “Platinum Night.” The spot will feature the above song.

If you’re a beer-lover who thinks that it’s important to drink certain styles of beer in certain styles of glasses, this new product from two major American breweries may interest you.

Purveyors of tasty brews Dogfish Head Brewery and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. have teamed up with Spiegelau glassware to create the ultimate glass for India Pale Ale lovers. They call it the “new standard for IPA glassware.”

“I’ve been a longtime believer in the importance of using quality glassware to enhance the enjoyment of quality craft beer,” says Dogfish Head Founder and President Sam Calagione. “The process of collaborating on the design of this hop-centric glass takes this concept to the next level.”

Why does this glass make the IPA-drinking experience better? According to its designers, a whole bunch of things. For instance the glass’ walls are thin and rounded, allowing proper temperature regulation. The shape also helps to “amplify hop aromas,” something that any IPA drinker will know is important.

The glass also has “wave-like ridges to aerate beer on its way in and out of the glass” and “a laser-etched logo on the bottom of the bowl to sustain carbonation and head.”

Spiegelau VP Matthew Rutkowski believes that If pilsners, saisons, and other styles of beer have universally-recognized glasses that maximize flavor and regulate consistency, why not the IPA?

“The goal of this initiative was to develop a glass that would serve as the new global standard for the American IPA style of beer, just as the world recognizes wheat, pilsner and other beer glass styles,” Rutkowski says. “We are thrilled to have collaborated with two of America’s pre-eminent IPA brewers on this project, as this further validates that we are offering beer drinkers a glass that will maximize their tasting experience to its fullest potential.”

You can order one of the new IPA glasses from the Dogfish Head store. It’ll run you $9. Even if you think the whole “glass matters” thing is bullsh*t, it’s still a pretty cool glass.

Man, I’m thirsty.

The U.S. Justice Department this week filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch Inbev’s (ABI) acquisition of Grupo Modelo. ABI is the maker of the best-selling beer in the U.S., Bud Light. Modelo sells the best-selling import beer in the U.S., Corona Extra.

ABI has proposed buying Modelo for $20.1 billion dollars. Of the $80 billion Americans spent on beer in 2012, around 39% of that amount went to ABI, while Modelo accounts for around 7% of U.S. beer sales. The companies are the largest and third-largest beer companies in the U.S. The justice department claims that the proposed merger would “substantially lessen competition in the market for beer in the United States” and result in rising beer prices.

“The department is taking this action to stop a merger between major beer brewers because it would result in less competition and higher beer prices for American consumers,” said Bill Baer, assistant attorney general in charge of the Department of Justice antitrust division. “If ABI fully owned and controlled Modelo, ABI would be able to increase beer prices to American consumers. This lawsuit seeks to prevent ABI from eliminating Modelo as an important competitive force in the beer industry.”

The Justice Department’s complaint makes the case that the U.S. beer market is already highly concentrated, and that ABI “generally” acts as a price leader. It points out that while other beer companies such as MillerCoors, the second-largest beer seller in the U.S., generally follow ABI’s yearly price increases, Modelo has priced its imports “aggressively,” keeping ABI’s price increases under pressure.
