Reuters is reporting that Kodak is also halting production of pocket video cameras and digital picture frames in the first half of 2012. Kodak announced that they were filing for bankruptcy last month after failing to adapt to modern technologies that it helped invent.

The company said on Thursday that it will take a charge of about $30 million for the business exit. It expects to save more than $100 million by cutting out manufacturing.

Kodak said that their choice was the “logical extension” of their strategy to improve margins by narrowing its product portfolio, geographies and retail outlets.

The company generated about three-quarters of its revenue from digital photography goods, but said that it will now pursue licensees to expand its brand licensing program. The company will still offer online and retail printing, and desktop printers.

Its remaining consumer services will include retail-based photo kiosks and dry lab systems. It has over 100,000 kiosks and dry lab systems around the world.

Kodak will also still operate its commercial business that offers enterprise services, graphics, entertainment and commercial film units.

The company is working closely with its retail partners to ensure a smooth transition out of the camera business. The company will still offer support and honor all warranties for their current cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames that are currently on the market.

Hostess Brands, the maker of Twinkies and other sugar-laden treats near and dear to the American waistline, have announced that they are prepping to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, reports the Wall Street Journal today. So how deeply into the red is Hostess, whose sweet stash also includes Ding Dongs and Ho-Hos? $860 million.

That’s a big Twinkie.

Despite the megasweet treats from Hostess having precisely zero redeeming health value, people are saddened nonetheless about the news of the impending absence of Twinkies on their grocery shelves. Many people expressed their lament today on Twitter:

Just last week Circuit City announced the closing of 155 stores which meant 155 fewer music stores.  Today the retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.  According to the Associated Press:

"…the nation’s second-biggest electronics retailer, filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday but plans to stay open for business as the busy holiday shopping season approaches.It filed under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code, which will allow it to hold off creditors and continue operations while it develops a reorganization plan. On the Yahoo Message Boards, a user known as "janiscampanella" provided what appears to be an email from an E*Trade employee.  Campanella’s profile is quite bare, but since first joining the Boards in February of 2007, she’s made 263 posts.

She’s also apparently heard from Adam Townsend, who in many official press releases, has been named E*Trade’s investor relations contact.  Townsend supposedly responded to questions about E*Trade’s anti-bankruptcy stance by stating, "Clearly I think the board and everyone here is behind what Mr. Caplan said with respect to the bankruptcy possibilities, and they are all doing everything they can to make sure that remains the case, but I can never promise anything."

Henry Blodget has left voicemails for Townsend in an attempt to confirm the message.  Meanwhile, people on the Yahoo Message Boards seem to be working themselves into a frenzy.

Whether the message is or isn’t legitimate, though, it’s somewhat unlikely that we’ll hear much else on the matter.  A prankster would have already accomplished his (or her) goal, while the real Townsend might have thought to stop talking.  And a denial seems possible either way.
