The Associated Press is reporting that a 12-year-old boy has been arrested for making a prank call to 911 about a school shooting in a small Minnesota town.

The student reportedly made the prank call at around 8 am, telling dispatchers that there was a shooter in New Prague Middle School. The boy is alleged to have said the make-believe shooter was carrying an AK-47.

The call resulted in the middle school and other schools in the area being cleared out, and students were eventually given the day off.

Stevens, who has a history of arrests, was arrested the night before the wedding for fourth-degree domestic violence assault, but was released due to lack of evidence. The police report stated that Solo and Stevens had been arguing before a “physical altercation” occurred involving eight people.

This week, the 911 call that night from Solo’s brother, Marcus Solo, has been released. The call reveals that the partygoers had, indeed, been drinking and that a stun gun had been involved in the fight.

For her part, Solo married Stevens just hours later and told the police that the incident was due to “unknown” men at the party. She has maintained since that time that Stevens did not and would not hit her.

WSBT reports that 52-year-old Gregory Jackson Sr. was so hungry last week that he called 911, and asked that they give him a cheeseburger. The dispatcher hung up on him, but that wasn’t enough to deter Jackson. He reportedly called 911 nine times over a 90 minute period asking for a cheeseburger over and over again.

After the ninth time, it’s reported that the dispatcher was concerned for Jackson’s safety and sent an officer to his residence. It was found then that he was actually wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court. He also had a pretty sizable criminal record, mostly alcohol related. The report doesn’t mention if alcohol or drugs played a part in his “emergency calls.”

In recap, it’s funny to order a cheeseburger at a shoe store, but it’s not funny to order a cheeseburger over an emergency line. Doing so is stupid, and it might just land you in jail.

Oh, and don’t call 911 to complain about crappy cheeseburgers either.

A project did begin, though, and it is ambitious. Construction on the One World Trade Center (1 WTC), formerly known as the Freedom Tower, is six years in, and still not complete. The building, when complete, will have 90 floors, house 3 million square feet, and be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. In July it was announced that 55% of the space inside the building has already been leased. Some notable tenants include the U.S. General Services Administration and Conde Nast, which will house its global headquarters in 1 WTC.

The construction finally began in 2006 after disputes between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the project developers were settled. For two years workers toiled underground, preparing the base of the structure. After four more years of steady construction, finally, back in April of this year, 1 WTC became the tallest building in New York City.

“Following years of hard work and numerous challenges, this world-class skyscraper reached an incredible milestone today, taking its place as the crown jewel of New York’s skyline,” said Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye back on April 30. “When One World Trade Center opens to the public, it will not only be a place to work, shop and eat, but a place where people will marvel at its amazing rebirth; one that will anchor Lower Manhattan for many generations to come.”

Construction continues apace and just last month a special beam signed by President Obama, Michelle Obama, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, among others, was hoisted and secured atop 1WTC. The building is on-track to open in 2014

President mentioned One World Trade Center during his weekly address, which was primarily about the U.S. response to the September 11, 2001 attacks:

Instead of pulling back from the world, we’ve strengthened our alliances while improving our security here at home. As Americans, we refuse to live in fear. Today, a new tower rises above the New York skyline. And our country is stronger, safer and more respected in the world.

While the new tower won’t be completed until 2014, its bones are there, reaching up into the atmosphere with the strength of all the survivors and the families of those who lost their lives eleven years ago today. And while there have been many delays and agonizing months of re-planning, developers are happy to say that the new building incorporates the safety features and security measures it desperately needed while incorporating itself into the layout of the city better than the original tower did. New streets will be opened up, creating a better planned space than what was there before.

“It is not finished, but we have created a place that is much more like the rest of New York than the old World Trade Center — much more pedestrian friendly,” said Janno Lieber, Trade Center project director.

As far as security goes, the new building will feature a windowless base which encompasses the first eleven stories and is strong enough to withstand car bombs. There will also be over 600 police officers assigned to protect the World Trade Center buildings. Among other things, this news is a comfort to the people of New York; however, seeing the new structure standing proudly 1,368 feet in the air does them a world of good, as well.

“The tall buildings make you feel good,” said Michael Keane, who fled the collapsing towers on 9/11. “We had suffered for a long time.”

To say the least…

But most butt-dial horror stories involve the disclosure of sensitive information, or in the worst cases an unwilling broadcast of some more…private times. Most butt-dials don’t wind up throwing you in the slammer.

Unfortunately for 24-year-old Justin Kryzanowski of Scranton, Pensylvania, his butt-dial wasn’t most butt dials.

The Times-Tribune is reporting that Kryzanowski is facing possession charges (drugs, paraphernalia, and weapons) after a very unlucky accidental call led police to his door. According to the report, Kryzanowski most an unwitting call to 911 while in the middle of a drug deal. The Lackawanna County dispatch center captured the entire deal on recording, and notified Scranton police of the “open line” to “narcotics activity.”

Police later tracked Kryzanowski to his place of residence. There, they found syringes of Suboxone, various types of prescription medication, paraphernalia, and a set of brass knuckles. They also found Kryzanowski, a little messed up from the drugs.

And sure enough, his cellphone was found to be the one that made the unfortunate 911 call.

Surprisingly enough, this isn’t the first time in recent memory that a butt-dial has led to the foiling of a criminal plot. Back in December of 2011, two men were arrested as they tried to rob a video game store after police listened to them plot the heist for nearly an hour beforehand.

On of the two men had accidentally called 911.

Warner Bros., the studio who bankrolled and released latest Batman endeavor, has issued a statement regarding the shooting. “Warner Bros. and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident,” the company wrote. “We extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to the victims, their loved ones and those affected by this tragedy.”

Dan Fellman, head of distribution for the studio, said, “Everybody is very saddened by the event. We were obviously looking for a very happy occasion for us. It’s a difficult way to begin. We’re just more concerned now with the well-being of those that were injured, of course.”

Neither Christopher Nolan nor the film’s stars have been reached for comment. However, I suspect that some sort of joint statement will be issued before too long.

Cinemark, the company which owns the theater where the shooting took place, said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and loved ones, our employees, and the Aurora community. We are grateful for the quick and professional reaction of all local law enforcement and emergency responders. Cinemark is working closely with the Aurora Police Department and local law enforcement.”

The killing spree perpetrated by suspect James Holmes has shocked the entire nation; even those with no personal ties to the incident have felt the emotional impact of this impossibly unfortunate scenario. All these peopled wanted to do was sit down and watch a movie, an event that is usually associated with happiness. That’s something we can all relate to, I think.
