Square has acquired interface design company 80/20. 80/20 posted the following message to its site:
At 80/20, we’ve been fortunate to work on amazing products and platforms. In every project, we’ve started with the belief that the best design gets out of the user’s way and that you can craft unforgettable user experiences by keeping things simple and obsessing over the details.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we’re joining Square.
The natural next step for 80/20 is to commit our focus to one company, and Square is a perfect fit. Square shares our passion for using technology and design to improve people’s lives. Together, we will reimagine and redesign how people communicate through commerce everyday, all around the world.
80/20 is the product of former Apple designer Andrew Borovsky and former Adobe designers Jerry Knight and Andrew Lin. Borovsky led the product design of MobileMe. Before that, he worked at Adobe as well. Knight led design for the Adobe Lighthouse team, and Lin redesigned Photoshop and the Creative Suite. He worked at Apple as a product design lead before that, working on Aperture.

The acquisition was further confirmed by Square CEO Jack Dorsey:
Square acquires 80/20, one of the best design agencies in the world, and with it, an office in SoHo. We believe in NYC. http://t.co/tShXI80P
