Japan is preparing for the long-awaited launch of Sony’s answer to the Nintendo DS, the PSP. The target for the PSP launch is this coming Sunday. This marks Sony’s first venture into the mobile gaming field.
According to Playstation’s website, the PSP comes equipped with “a 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD centered in a sleek ergonomic design with a high-quality finish that fits comfortably in the hands.” The screen is in a 4.3-inch, LCD format and “displays full color (16.77 million colors) on a 480 x 272 pixel high-resolution screen.” The PSP also features a USB port and a wireless LAN connection.
PCWorld.com reported that Sony anticipates having close to 200,000 models available for the launch, while supplying another 100,000 each week after that. The goal for Sony is to have half a million PSPs available in Japan by the end of 2004.
