Shailene Woodley says she uses a surprising source to keep her lips looking luscious.

The actress is known to be a health nut, using all-natural products as part of her nutrition plan, as well as a source for her beauty secrets, some of which are, well, quite surprising.

For example, she has been on record saying she used Vitamin D on her backside, ingests clay on a daily basis and uses sesame oil to clean her teeth.

Her latest craze is using a red-pigmented vegetable to give her lips some color.

Any guesses?

Yep, Shailene Woodley, 23, likes to use beets as her go-to lipstick.

“It’s totally awesome,” she told Bon Appétit magazine about her beauty product.

“Beets are amazing. If you roast them you’ll get a better lipstick,” she added. “They’re not as potent and they don’t stain the same way if they’re raw. So I roast them first and then just dab a little of the juice on my lips with my finger.”

Meanwhile, Shailene is currently filming the Oliver Stone biopic on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in Washington D.C. with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 34, who plays Snowden.

Woodley plays Snowden's girlfriend, Lindsay Mills, in the film, which is set to hit the big screen on Christmas Day.

The film also stars Nicolas Cage, Scott Eastwood, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant.
