Although this story may sound like the plotline from an unproduced Cheech & Chong flick, it is apparently the real deal. According to MSNBC, authorities in California recently hauled in nearly 8,000 pounds of marijuana that was simply floating around off the coast. Harbor Patrol officers located the mysterious cargo on Sunday, which was packaged into roughly 160 bales. Either someone needed to dump the illegal product post-haste, or there's a guy out there getting ready to have one of the worst weeks of his life.
"Law enforcement authorities seized marijuana found off the coast of Orange County, California this afternoon. Seizing the narcotics is the result of the joint efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities working together within one regional coordinating group to stop illegal maritime activity along the Southern California coastline," US Border Patrol Agent Supervisor Michael Jimenez said in a statement.
The cargo, which has an estimated street value of $3.6 million, was spotted by several individuals along the coastline on Sunday. Harbor Patrol officers began receiving phone calls about the flotsam around noon, forcing officials to drag 7,263 pounds of marijuana from the water. Presently, it's unclear if any arrests have been made.
Four tons of floating marijuana is enough to get anyone's imagination going, particularly those who spend their days and nights tossing posts around Twitter. If the following reactions are any indication, I'd say there's a lot of users getting to spark one up right about now.
