  • Sarah Silverman will reportedly have a recurring role on season two of Showtime’s Masters of Sex. The series is adapted from the book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Loveby Thomas Maier. The show follows William Masters (played by Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan)–noted real life pioneers of human sexuality–as they make their way from doing research on the topic in a Missouri hospital to covering Time magazine. You’ve surely heard of Masters and Johnson. Well, this show is about them–with some drama added in for good measure and top ratings.

Silverman will play the role of Helen, who is Betty’s (played by Annaleigh Ashford) former lesbian lover. Helen is also a psychic. Her pining for Betty is a clear facet of her role.

Although best known for her raw stand-up comedy, Sarah Silverman isn’t new to acting. She has also starred in Wreck-It Ralph, Take This Waltz, and Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. She will appear soon in both Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West and the drama I Smile Back.

Silverman’s new role in Masters of Sex will mean she and her boyfriend will be spending even more time together. She is dating Michael Sheen, who plays Dr. William Masters.

Are you a Sarah Silverman fan? Do you watch Masters of Sex? It will certainly be interesting to see the comedian in this intriguing new role.

Alas fans will have a while to wait before seeing Silverman as Betty. The new season of Masters of Sex airs on Showtime beginning in July.
