Sarah Hyland is opening up about the abuse that she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop. Hyland and Prokop dated for a long time and appeared to be happy. In September, Hyland filed a restraining order against Prokop after she claimed that he chocked her, threatened to hurt her dog and threatened to burn her house down.
At the time, Hyland didn't share her feelings about the incident but she recently opened up on The Meredith Vieira Show and said she is trying to move on and forget about the past and the bad relationship.
"There are two quotes that I want to say. One is a Dylan Thomas poem, 'Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,' which is one of my favorite poems," Hyland shared. "It just strikes a chord in me. And also Robert Frost's 'The only way out is through.'"

Hyland and Prokop met while filming the Disney movie Geek Charming. They started dating a short time later and were together for five years before they broke up.
Hyland didn't say how long the abuse had been going on or if any similar incidents had happened in the past. She said that in spite of everything, she is trying to stay positive.
She has put on a brave face and is determined to turn the incident into something good and said that she saw it as a learning experience and something that helped shape her into the woman she is today.
"People have to go through things in order to become the person that they are today. And that's that," she added on the show.
