The Yahoo Publisher Network has begun to make advertising for placement in RSS feeds available as a new feature for site publishers.

The latest news on RSS advertising comes from Loren Baker at Search Engine Journal, who reported on the latest addition to the Yahoo! Publisher Network.

Current YPN members can enable RSS feed ads via the Ad Setup area. After registering the site’s feed, YPN will generate the code to be installed in the RSS template for the blog. Baker said YPN helps users navigate that installation with some instructions called the Ads in RSS Setup Guide.

While Baker isn’t a fan of RSS ads, there could be one benefit for those who make RSS feeds available to visitors:

…the possibility of gaining an ad click from the user who would not click over to my blog, or the user who is perfectly happy with reading the RSS excerpt from a story, the notion of monetizing such syndictation is a good one. Additionally, I’ve also heard that RSS ads cut down on the amount of “splog” operators scraping and reprinting your feed excerpts (or full content feeds).
