Roddy White Tweets Apology to Fantasy Owners

  • Although the Atlanta Falcons recorded an impressive opening day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, one of the Falcons’ most popular players isn’t entirely pleased with the way the game turned out.

Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White reeled in six catches for 87 yards in Sunday’s contest, but his failure to reach the endzone led to a rare Twitter apology to fantasy owners.

Addressing those who may have drafted him in an early round, White tweeted that he had to get “ya’all some more points” shortly after the conclusion of the game:

In most standard leagues, White’s performance would have netted a fantasy owner around 8 points. If the league scored points per reception, White could have scored 14 points for any fantasy team he graced (14.7 with decimal scoring). This is by no means an atrocious fantasy score, but it’s also on the low end for any receiver who thinks of himself as a top tier option.

Athletes and Twitter don’t always mix well, as we’ve seen various instances of NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB players getting themselves into trouble on the network. Because of this, most professional leagues have instated social media guidelines that govern the use of Twitter, Facebook, and other networks during the hours surrounding games. This isn’t exactly a penalty-worthy tweet coming for Roddy White, but I’m sure there are some out there who feel that apologizing for not scoring enough fantasy points is beneath a star wide receiver.
