Roberts discussed the reasons for keeping her relationship under wraps when she appeared on the talk show Ellen in April, telling host Ellen DeGeneres she kept her girlfriend private "'Well because she doesn’t really like spotlight. Like she’s here right now. I can’t get her to come out. You know not everyone wants to be in the spotlight.
Roberts also discussed the toll her cancer and treatment have taken on the relationship. "Sometimes we didn't see the same thing eye to eye, and I thought it was very powerful for people, because there's so many that care for their loved ones, and so to see her side of it and to see my side of it was pretty interesting" said Roberts, who battled myelodysplastic syndrome as result from her treatment for breast cancer.
Roberts spoke to People Magazine about Laign in April, saying "Even though Amber is someone who shies away from the spotlight, it was important for me to let people know I have this person in my life."
