  • Robert Downey Jr’s son, Indio Downey, was arrested on Sunday for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in West Hollywood.

Police noticed suspicious activities that they believed to be drug related in the car that Indio was a passenger in and arrested him after a search of the vehicle.

“He was smoking something and it wasn’t a cigarette,” a police official said.

Indio was released from jail on Sunday night on a $10,000 bail.

Indio’s father, Robert Downey Jr. has been arrested on similar charges several times during his life and released a statement about his son’s arrest saying,

“Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”

The actor even thanked authorities for arresting his son and said that it was the first step in helping Indio get the help he needs.

Robert Downey Jr,’s drug abuse cost him thousands of dollars in fines and he was even sentenced to rehab in 2002. He also lost many acting roles as a result of his battle with drugs. He has since recovered and resurrected his career.

He is now one of the most bankable stars in the industry.

Do you believe drug abuse is genetic and do you think Indio will recover from his addiction and go on to be as successful as his father?
