Ric Flair: Could Hernia Surgery Bring Retirement?

  • Wrestling legend Ric Flair has reportedly been hospitalized for over a week. At the age of 65, hospitalization is not something to be taken lightly. As we recently reported here, Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson was also hospitalized this week, at the age of 68.

In Flair’s case, it appears that he had an attack of appendicitis and was hospitalized in Georgia, causing him to miss the WWE NXT Takeover 2 last week. And now we know why.

    According to Jim Ross’ blog:

“Now sources are saying Ric Flair had an appendicitis attack and then the doctors found a hernia, which both are considered minor surgeries, but my take on that is that no surgery is ‘minor’ when a guy is 65 years old. Details are still unconfirmed but we hope that Flair heals quickly.”

According to Wrestling News Source, Flair underwent three surgeries in the last seven to ten days.

But things must be looking up. According to a report on PWInsider, Flair is scheduling future dates already.

“Ric Flair has been added to WWE’s live tour dates in Mexico City next month. Flair is expected to be released from the hospital today.”

Hernia surgeries can take weeks to recover from, depending on the hernia site and how the surgery was done. But it need to be a career-ending situation. Wrestling fans will recall that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had hernia surgery after an injury he suffered last year in a Wrestlemania battle with John Cena.
