It's hard to believe this is real, but McAfee Antivirus creator John McAfee is still hiding from the police, and reportedly keeps calling Wired reporter Joshua Davis to check in on a "semi-hourly" basis.
Davis reports that McAfee claims to now be in disguise, with his eyebrows, beard, and mustache dyed black. Davis, who provided audio of McAfee's calls before, quotes him as saying, "I have modified my appearance in a radical fashion. I'll probably look like a murderer, unfortunately."
It doesn't seem very smart to call the press and share the disguise you're in, when you're hiding out from the police, so it seems fairly likely that this is not really his disguise, but who knows? This story is far past crazy at this point.
Davis has been tweeting about the calls regularly. You can keep up with his tweets in real time below:
McAfee says he has no intention of turning himself in. According to Davis, he also said that a police spokesperson only said he's wanted for questioning, and not that he's a suspect. Something tells me hiding from the police and disguising his appearance isn't making him any less of a suspect.
According to David, who cites sources that aren't McAfee himself, several of McAfee's friends and associates have been detained by police.
