Toyota has begun looking into claims its hot-selling hybrid engine Prius stalls or shuts down at high speeds.

In a Reuters report, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 13 complaints of stalls or shutdowns happening with the Prius.

“We have been alerted to the fact that some owners might have a problem,” Toyota spokesman John Hansen said. “We are going to go back to our service records to find out what owners have had a problem like this and how many.”

A software glitch in the highly complex computer system could be to blame, some complaints claim. While the NHTSA will monitor the complaints, it has not planned a formal investigation into the popular 55 mile per gallon automobile yet.
