  • Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, recently gave birth to their first born Max. Along with the announcement of the birth of their daughter, Zuckerberg and Chan announced they will donate 99 percent of their fortune to charity.

First-time father, Zuckerberg made the statement in a letter to his daughter posted on his Facebook page.

The couple said they pledged to share $45 billion dollars from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with the mission of advancing human potential and promoting equality. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative aims to “pursue its mission by funding non-profit organizations, making private investments and participating in policy debates, in each case with the goal of generating positive impact in areas of great need.”

Everyone knows who Zuckerberg is, but Chan has maintained a low profile even after her marriage to the Facebook founder.

Facebook First Lady Priscilla Chan Appears Makes First TV Appearance On TODAY

In a rare TV appearance, Chan opened up to The Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie about her life. She said her parents immigrated to the U.S. in refugee boats and she grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts. Chan graduated valedictorian from Quincy High School in 2003 and got voted as “class genius.”

Growing up, Chan said she often served as translator for her grandparents who did not speak English. She earned a BA in Biology and studied Spanish at Harvard University from 2003 until 2007 where she met Zuckerberg.

In 2008, Chan went to medical school at the University of California in San Francisco. Then she and Zuckerberg tied the knot on May 19, 2012.

Just this summer, Chan completed her residency in Pediatrics and works as pediatrician at San Francisco General Hospital. She is also the CEO and cofounder of The Primary School, a nonprofit private school that will provide K-12 education, prenatal support and on-site healthcare which will operate next year, CNN said.

The power couple has been actively involved in several charity causes over the past few years.
