  • We’re about a month away from the anticipated launch of Pokemon X and Y, but we still don’t know everything about the new title. Some information will undoubtedly remain a mystery until launch, but Nintendo has decided a few new tidbits with us.

In a Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed that the company is launching an online storage app called Pokemon Bank for players to store their Pokemon in the cloud. Normally, players would just store Pokemon in Bill’s PC, but this is more or less for those who want to transfer Pokemon from Black and White to the new titles.

As one would expect, Pokemon Bank will not be free. Nintendo revealed that there will be a 500 yen annual fee in Japan so it’s safe to assume that the Pokemon Bank will cost $5 a year for us in the U.S. The Pokemon Bank can store up to 3,000 Pokemon so $5 a year might not be much to ask from the hardcore Pokemon players.

Next, the Nintendo Direct revealed that players will be able to choose between two teams of starters in Pokemon X and Y. You can choose from the new game’s starters – Chespin, Froakie and Fennekin – or you can choose from the original game’s starters – Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. The latter three will get mega evolutions.

Finally, Nintendo announced that the special edition blue and red Nintendo 3DS XL consoles featuring the legendaries from Pokemon X and Y will be made available in the U.S. on September 27. The special handhelds don’t come with the game so you’ll still have to buy that once it hits on October 12.
