Pickler Shaves Head In Support Of Best Friend

By: Amanda Crum - September 5, 2012

Kellie Pickler, the country crooner who got her start on “American Idol”, recently shaved off her shiny blonde hair in a show of solidarity for her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this summer.

Miller, a mother of two, suffered through a double mastectomy after the diagnosis and is now undergoing chemotherapy to ensure the fatal disease doesn’t come back. She says she was always vigilant about self-exams, something which more than likely saved her life.

Many cancer patients feel it’s easier to cut their hair short rather than having to deal with it falling out during chemo treatments, and when Summer decided that’s what she was going to do, Kellie quickly volunteered to join her. The pair documented their haircuts on video, which aired on “Good Morning, America” this morning.

“If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it,” Summer said.

It’s a horrible disease and the more supporters you have the better recovery goes. The rising number of patients suffering from this terrible disease is just alarming and the least we can do is to support the organizations whose members are working hard every day to relieve the sufferings of those patients and raise awareness all around the country. This weekend is a perfect opportunity for all Torontonians to participate in the event called the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers taking place in our city. It’s one of the most important events of this month and I think all of us should show our support to those who really need it.
