Personnel Moves Foreshadow Future For Hulu, Twitter

    March 24, 2009

It looks like Hulu and Twitter are growing up.  The first company has made a hire that signals a stronger-than-ever desire on its part to expand overseas, while the second has advertised openings for three different types of product managers.

Let’s start with the video-sharing site and its new Senior Vice President of International, Johannes B. Larcher.  A page naming members of Hulu’s executive team clearly states that Larcher is "responsible for leading Hulu’s expansion efforts outside the United States."  Since Larcher’s previously held the title of CEO at two different companies, and also operated on an international level for Friendster, Overture, and Korn Ferry Futurestep, he appears to be a good fit for the job.

Depending on how quickly the man works, then, it might not be long before Hulu’s earning income in all sorts of countries and perhaps offering an expanded lineup of television shows and movies.  A hat tip goes to Robert Andrews on this subject.

As for what’s happening on the Twitter front, anyone who’s interested in being a product manager over search, a consumer Internet platform, or the entire company should consider polishing his or her resume.  Erick Schonfeld observed that Twitter’s looking for people with a minimum of three years of experience to fill all of these positions.

What will transpire from there is hard to say, but it’s clear the company is interested in trying some new things.
