  • Penelope Cruz has reportedly signed on to play a role in the upcoming Zoolander sequel.

The sequel, a second to the original 2001 movie, will see the return of Ben Stiller as the empty-headed Zoolander, but not in as big of a role behind the scenes. This time around, the movie will be written and directed with help from Justin Theroux.

The original was a Ben Stiller solo project, and was marginally financially successful. It has become somewhat of a cult hit, and with stars like Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell, it was sure to become one. It earned $60 million worldwide at the box office.

Rumor has it that Penelope Cruz will be joined by Ferrell and Wilson in their original roles as as fashion mogul Mugatu and Zoolander’s supermodel rival Hansel, respectively.

However, there is no word yet on exactly what role Penelope Cruz will take on.

This isn’t the only project that the 40-year-old mother of two and wife of Javier Bardem is taking on in her busy life.

Penelope Cruz just finished filming for Julio Medem’s Ma Ma in Spain. She will also appear in Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie, Grimsby, which will be released next summer.

Rumor has it that she also might be returning to her role as Angelica in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 .

In the midst of all that filming, Penelope Cruz balances being a wife and a mother to her kids, Luna and Leo.

What do you think of the new Zoolander sequel? Are you excited to see what Penelope Cruz will add to the silly storyline?
