Paul Rudd Went Low-Carb, Cut Out Sex Panther Cocktails to Play Ant-Man

  • Paul Rudd worked his butt off to be the Ant-Man you’ll see on the big screen. Hollywood is full of tales of actors who made outrageous bodily transformations to play roles. Paul Rudd’s may not be as dramatic as that one time with Christian Bale, or even that other time with Christian Bale. But he should get some credit, nonetheless.

“I’d never exercised harder than this for an extended amount of time,” Paul Rudd said of his gymnastics-heavy workout regimen to become the Ant-Man you will come to love.

“My day was centered around fitness and health, and that was kind of a first,” Rudd explained. “Every other time, I had to go about my day and try and find the time to work out. But [this time] everything else about my day kind of had to fit in around the workouts. I was going to be held accountable for it, and there was a reason for doing it. I wasn’t just randomly doing this kind of arbitrarily, which would have made it a lot harder.”

Rudd says his gymnastic-centered workouts consisted of “flips and rolls and all that kind of stuff.”

“I wasn’t doing any kind of crazy parkour. You know, I couldn’t jump from that roof,” Paul Rudd qualified.

So, how did he do it? Starvation? Jenny Craig? Mainlining “Sex Panther”?

“I didn’t drink any alcohol [and] I had no carbs” for a year, Rudd says.

Even now that the film is in the can, Rudd wants to stay in reasonable shape. Perhaps it opens up more career choices.

“I’m still doing all the workouts, I’m still eating pretty well.”
