8 Reasons to Stop Ignoring Twitter

One major reason is that Tweets on Blog posts are posted by Google and drivie traffic. A recent post on Waltham MA foreclosures was posted on Google page 2 within 48 hours and generated directed traffic to Virtual Homes Real Estate

You say

You say the problem was very instructive.

it is worth learning

it is worth learning.

You could make a list of all your favorite people on twiiter and the list name would be "My Fav Followers" or something like that.

Almost half of Tweets Are Pointless Babble

Ran into this article a few months ago from Mashable for those of you who care to read, according to a study, 40.55% of Twitter's tweets are pointless babble: http://mashable.com/2009/08/12/twitter-analysis/

its great

I don't know anyone who uses it. Judging from his Twitter page,

Marketers are getting people from third world countries to manage their Twitter accounts nowadays. As expected, Twitter will become the best and most efficient marketing tool. It could also be the best customer support tool because you can see updates in real time.

Twitter

Twitter is a fantastic idea, that moves Freedom of Speech forward, with an individual or business.

I am not sure what to write.

I am not sure what to write. But it was a good article.

Just a diary...

You wrote all that and still forgot to mention twitter is merely a school girl's online diary. I doubt theres any serious advantage in terms of marketing since most people just wanna know about other people's lives, not read market spam. If you actually managed to bring some attention your product, good for you, but i dont see how this poorly made social network is gonna achieve anything big in terms of business growth unless they make it user-friendly (its horrible to use) and add some proper features which allows businesses to market without harassing the comunity, which they do.

On Top Of The World

Hey Troy, here is one great way to use Twitter without having to just talk about the burrito anyone ate for lunch. Mount Everest is now on twitter offering anyone who climbs the mountain free use of the twitter account during their climb to broadcast their mission to the world and to give the world a window into the lives of the climbers. All the tweets will be kept as a permanent record for years to come. If you are a climber its a great way to always be able to permanently show the world you where there.

You can give me 100 reasons

You can give me 100 reasons and I'll still ignore it. I have enough pointless clutter in my life already thanks.

there is a wrong way to Tweet Guy Kawasaki

stop sending a hundred million f*&^% tweets every ten minutes to your followers.

Its obvious you have employees that are paid to spam the living hell out of your followers, and though im a techie, software guy, and online enteprenuer, i HAD TO STOP FOLLOWING YOU because you dont respect the time of your followers. I would like to read the tweets of other people too and now I can now that i have unglogged my screen with your thousands tweets/hr approach.

Over-Tweeting

Printing Dude: Can I say, AMEN!? I stopped following Guy for exactly that reason and I have unfollowed many others for the same reason. Automated tweets are ok, but not every few seconds! Auto DMS are just plain wrong.

Where is the quantifiable data?

Social media in general lacks data on sales conversion and until published, quantifiable information is available it's just a bunch of noise. I agree with previous poster on confusing activity with accomplishment - very well put.

Twitterless in Alabama

I do not use Twitter. Our customers do not use Twitter. When it comes to heavy industrial B2B selling, I believe Twitter is a waste of time. In our target market segments, the use of Twitter would be a classic case of confusing activity with accomplishment. B2C selling of consumer products may indeed be a different case.

Just Your Titles, Chris

Maybe it's because I've been offline this last week... but I am struck by the negativity in the choice of wording of your recent article titles. I'm sure you know that it's Writing Efficiency 101 to always focus on the positive simply because, nearly every time, it takes less words to say it in a positive way, than a negative.

I mean, maybe you do this intentionally... I suppose, "You Need To Stop Ignoring Twitter" may sound more sensational than, "8 Reasons Twitter Is Essential" or something like that.

I've found a lot of online writers can't write a title to save their life. You're usually better than most, which is probably why I'm picking on you... because there's still hope. But don't slip into those bad habits.

Hope you aren't offended. As a pro, you know professional critique can only help.

Cheers!

Mo

I seldom use twitter... but now I might

Interesting to note that Twitter has become increasingly important. Will twit more from now.

JUST LOOK AT ITS WELCOME

JUST LOOK AT ITS WELCOME PAGE. NOTHING THERE REALLY.

I've been using it for a while...

I've been using Twitter to socially market my safety and security web site for some time now. I have to say it can be a bit frustrating trying to figure out how to get the results you're looking for. I've heard success stories but haven't written one of my own yet. Thanks, Chris, for some great tips.

It's because they just want

It's because they just want you to buy something they are promoting. They don't really care if you make money with their product or not.

You have So Much to Teach Me

So I have submitted my site to one thousand search enginges and directories. Then I oppened 200 bookmarking accounts so I could bookmark and say nice things about my pages, (from someone elses perspective). Now I am bieng guided to twiiter where I can share my joyous marketing message and raise my brand awarness , mostly to thousands of other misguided non thinking internet marketers like myself. And... I have whole hour or two left over in the day to actually develop products that people actually might want or find valuable. Ahh life is good.

Good stuff

2007: myspace

I'm curious to see what ends up filling in the blank here.

end of society as we know it

end of society as we know it

Social Networks must be used and understood properly

My first statement: Twitter thumbs up and unforeseen future (die from success?), Facebook go hell (but I use it), LinkedIn will prevail.
Three examples of different means, different ways to explore the benefits and ways to build relationship with the social media universe.
Twitter is there for providing and consume perfectly segmented expertize and guidelines, offer and find "that interesting job you were waiting for", and for many many other uses, as many as different minds under the sun. Will it evolve into something wildly different? And most important, will it still be the Twitter of the tweeterers or advertising space?
Facebook is (to my taste) simply too viral, your friends become time consumers through silly, senseless applications, invitations are landmines, labeling people on pictures is very very sensible info, business pages a click away from family videos, content is thrashy... I use to post warnings and screenshots about spam and phishing, specially about the many cheats looking for account usurpation and you know? I get no follow. But guess what, two slots below I see this content, literally "***))/! buff!" and 8 "like it"... Com'on! But it is still good for non relevant matters, despite it is significant due to its growing audience = business oportunities.
LinkedIn is different and tends to stay as is, a pro networking area. It is quite serious and looks like it will remain like this, despite some people use it in a sort of spammy ways, grey areas...

For a SEO professional Twitter is a must, be there, follow those of your interest, be followed by those interested in you... Who are you? Your relevancy may come from the shared features of your followers, be followed by enough SEO related names and anyone will guess you're a SEO or something alike and, of course, a trusted partner for business.
Thanks for your time and atention, nice lines Chris!

We have most of our clients use Twitter...

We have most of our clients use Twitter...

I know there are many people against Social Networking especially Twitter, but you must admit. Our customers are there! Real people are behind MOST, not all but MOST of those Twitter accounts, and if I can have my development clients reach those potential customers then great! In this day and age of the I WANT THINGS DONE YESTERDAY, and I WANT MY INFORMATION RIGHT THIS MOMENT. We as developers must assist our clients reach their goal. Gone are the days of developing a website using some ppc and watching the traffic come. There is SOOOO much competition now for your clients that you need some sort of an edge. Social Networking is that new edge. Twitter is about as direct as you can get, at least right now. It is the in your face speak with my customer tool. With a little brainstorming and thought one can use Twitter to accomplish many many good things. Personally, 90% of my Twitter usage is for either marketing myself, company or my clients. But that 90% is time well spent....

I will have an article up soon on our web development site. Watch for it...

Epic Media Designs - Web Development

Twitter

If you want to have visibility in your niche all 2.0 web tools are helpful.
Of course you have to learn how to use these tools effectively and understand the concept behind the various interactive social networking sites. It is an art in itself to network and share on a personal and on a business level. You can achieve a lot and you can have a lot of fun as well. Maybe the most important aspect is that you can reach people across the globe and access information and contend like never before in history!
I am grateful for all that the Internet has to offer.

Social Media do not work

Hi, well Facebook, twitter and all those social media never work, fisrt when I learn everything about social media and started to put all of this in practice, a client told me this "well I need a lot of friends even imaginary friends to make facebook work, twitter the same, and I start to follow hundreds of people but no one follows me, my clients always contact me by e-mail as me as newsletter because is so easy to use and fast, because social media have to open an account manage that, your clients have to learn how to use it and cross fingers, maybe for youths and famous work, but not for contact clients because no one want to follow or be friend of a stranger in a strange land ... conclusion, faceFook"

As a web developer and adviser for SME and newsletter service provider, money and time get married and people want mass marketing but cheap and easy, SME want things that make strange clients on a strange land and/or strange clients on a known land.

Most of my clients are from the steel, metal-mechanic parts, forestal equipment, naturist stores and mini-market industry ... so who want to be friend or follow a "steel-man" ???? of course, NO ONE !!!!!

Thanks and anyway it is a good post.

If you can read and speak English coherently

You are not going to do very well in english speaking markets on Twitter.

hehehe I have a lot of

hehehe I have a lot of things to do and I dont like to use 5 languages every day .... cheers.
