I'm always on the lookout on how to boost traffic to my website. Great report on the capabilites of Stumbleupon to increase visitors.

Well i truly agree that for beginner SU is the great site to grab the visitor i got 1000 to 1500 visitor last week from the stumbleupon.
But suddenly i dont know wt happen visitors start decreasing. CAn any one tell me y it happens???

You are right.
For a small website 3000-5000 extra visitors is a lot.
One of my clients is Piccadilly's Fine Art Galleries in Cleveland, Ohio.
They had one of their images StumbledUpon, leading to 28000 extra visitors in a 4 day period.
This did not lead to a sale, but did provide exposure.

This is a really good article, but I have to admit my head is spinning. I'm finding it really hard to keep up with all of the social media sites and which I should/shouldn't be using, and how I should/shouldn't be using them.

I finally got to grips with facebook & myspace, twitter just doesn't make any sense to me at all, now stumble, digg, etc to contend withtoo.

I'm not going to have any time to actually run a business, all of my time is going to be taken up chasing around social media sites.

I think I'll go have a lie down.

In the past 18 months I had 1 day with about 2,000 visits from SU. Traffic was good quality. Over a minute per visit. I've tried to work it since and was never stumbled again, finally gave up. Maybe I'll try again.

You can also bookmark your most interesting blog articles manually by your self. There are further social bookmarking services out there which you can use as well to drive traffic to your blog. It takes a little effort, but it's worth the time.

After 3 attempts and rejections I gave up on them.....Each time I was told they were sorry and this was a human error and my site should have been accepted...I was told I had submitted properly and apologized to...My site still is not there.

Are these comments mostly from people who work at or for SU? We've been using it for the past 6 months and the traffic that comes is TERRIBLE traffic! The users stay for about 10 seconds, look at 1 page, and jump right off the site. One time we got a boost from a power user who submitted one of our links but it was 300-400 not 3-4,000 (as the article mentions). It's not sticky at all. Shallow traffic, users who don't return, etc.

We've never been able to get on the home page, have no idea how to build to do that, or what to focus efforts on. The algorithm is very vague and while I understand they want to keep it proprietary, users still need to know what to focus on and what the "rules" (specific and unwritten) are.

SU has been a waste of resources for us. We could spend all day on this site and still not get anywhere. Obviously some people have cracked the code but we get better results from Reddit, Digg and Delicious (and way more from Twitter and Facebook).

I've been a fan of Stumble Upon for 6 months now. I own a network group for small businesses and Stumble Upon was one of our focus sites.

Members not only saw an increase in traffic within days but also got sales from our networking efforts.

The key to your Stumble Upon success is picking out the right tags. Start with their recommended ones first then enter your keywords after. If you don't choose one of the tags that pop up in their tag options then it will be harder for you to show up on other Stumblers recommended section of their profile. So if you own an online ecommerce business choose ecommerce for your tag first followed by your keywords.

Another tip to getting a lot of traffic is to ask other sites that you may know or friends to review your site by giving you a thumbs up. Make sure you have the thumbs up button on your site so it will be easier for them. A lot of people haven't downloaded the stumble upon tool bar. If you use the thumbs up buttons that Stumble Upon provides for you. If you don't know how to code your title for your site then make sure you remove the coding after your url that includes the title code. If you don't your stumble upon button won't work.

I definitely give the site two thumbs up!

I also rely on traffic from Stumbleupon, but results of the visit to my little blog. traffic from ppc and Seo techniques of better.

I once was able to get my site to the first page of Stumbleupon and the amount of traffic I got through was immense - much more than anywhere else. I think it is one of the more useful and rewarding social bookmarking tools available.
