Well I don't see Bing defeating Google in the coming years.Google has already captured the market and they are continuously upgrading their algorithms.Bing on the other hand doesn't show any good search performance.Its just a remodeling of Live.But again its true that Google has become a garbage spot.I think Google should clean it up first. :)

Does anyone really expect Microsoft to have an impartial search engine that doesn’t lead people to MSN, Windows Live or some other horrible Microsoft product?

Why is there so much emotion (positive and negative) when a news story focuses on Microsoft? Let's stick with the facts and how they might or might not impact us. In what ways is Bing better or worse than Google or Yahoo? How will (or should) Bing's introduction affect marketers? Here are my newest thoughts on Bing, Yahoo!, and Google.

Must confess, bing hasn't particularly won my heart. The video preview feature is an interesting aside (yet another bandwidth drain tho..)

Whilst competition is good, etc., it can hardly be said that Google is a monopoly that doesn't have any. It's good at it's job. What more can be said? Yahoo, Live/bing, alta vista, turbo10, accoona, aggregators like dogpile, etc are all competition, whether a serious threat or not.

bing is just another rebrand of a service that has a history (remember that 'Live search' was not a new bit of kit when it launched...). Yes, it has a nice bit of macro-lens photography on the start page, and returns relevant results - so does altavista (still).

I would be interested in who was represented in that 1000 people surveyed, given the gigantically braod spectrum of internet users, 1000 folk will represent less than 0.1% of those online, so 55% of that isn't particularly representative.

It's a nice soundbite, granted, but all I feel is 'meh'

I'm glad Microsoft are bringing out a real competitor to Google, finally Google will have a run for its money and competition can only be a good thing (even if Microsoft doesn't like it when it happens to them).

For those that think Bing won't be able to challenge Google I'd think again. Over the years numerous search engines have held the top spot including Hotbot, AltaVista, Excite, Yahoo, and Lycos but each was toppled and it can happen again, Microsoft certainly have the marketing muscle to do so although it will take time of course, and over time I've no doubt they will improve their own search algorithm.
