Matt Cutts Tweets About Bing

Notices Some Shortcomings in Bing Results

I’m sitting with the devs at present.

Bing's search results is going to resonate throughout the industry.

He likes Twilight. That

He likes Twilight. That basically sums him up for me, and makes him not worth paying attention to.

Bing

Bing is good for me so far - my sites are slightly higher in bing than google for keyterms I've optimize for (http://www.jamtracksforguitar.com for example).

O

Googlers shitting their pants

Its funny how scared the googlers like Matt are when they see a better product. They've been sitting on their asses for the last 4 years on search and wasting too much time on Android and Gmail trying to make more money.
In terms of relevance in basic text searches both bing and google do better on some searches but for the most part the results are the same. However Bing blows google out of the water with its interface(preview), travel, shopping, image and video searches. So I am switching over to bing. Also like their cool front page design that shows interesting stuff to learn about all the time from across the world.
Hasta la vista Goobies. Lets hope Microsoft doesnt let up.

The BING is getting some

The BING is getting some BLING... but Google is still going to be KING!

bing not bing crosby

Copywriting and protectionism is a western culture, it's closed, what gain is there through not cooperating.

Bing

This is definitely overkill. Bing is OK, but still has a ways to go before having a chance at fighting Google

It's Interesting...

The users will decide

relevence

After having a play around with Bing for a little while I'm of the opinion that they still have a lot of work to do regarding the relevence of their search results. On one common keyword search you have to wait until page three to get an exact match for the search terms. the results are too obscure.

Relevance

I agree with the "Relevance" post.

Bing

I mean really.........

I personally think this is all overkill. I mean how many variations of the same thing do you need for nearly the same results?

Its like telling a class full of 5 year olds to go to the same coat room to look for the same red rain coat with the words "rain coat" on it and then telling them they can only look in the right corner of the coat room.

Are we trying to make things better or are we just bored?

Bad PR

It's so bad when Matt Cutts simply cuts down other companies to make himself (Google) look good.

I cannot begin to tell you how much spam I come across in Google every hour of the day.

Too early to tell and...

Is any search ever perfect (even from Big G)?

It's really too early to tell if Bing will be a viable competitor for G. Right now, I am sure they are looking for feedback so they can improve.

I remember Google's first days as a search engine, they were pretty awful actually. But G grew up and developed into the engine it is now...and that's good for some people, and not so good for others.

Bing, if it does things correctly, will follow a similar path.

Take a break...

..., Mr. Google Perfect. Google's results are not always that great either.
Let me give you one advice: Wear Sunscreen ;-)

Ring the 'BING' changes

Tried Bing for the first time this morning and find it a big improvement on Google.
The problem with google is that since it has started to take more notice of social sites, forums, on-line advertising, etc. a lot of the results are becoming blog.
Google results also tend to be stale due to it's preference for old sites. It is good to see something different and objective for a change
I also like the information drop down on the website on the left which saves a lot of time searching irrelevant sites. Google needs to improve or watch out for Bing.

Bing Bong the search is dead

Rubbish....just like Live. Why dont microsoft just give up on trying to provide search for the internet they have fallen too far behind. Why not use their resources to buy as many shares of Google as possible until they have all of them!

Anyway here is an example of how rubbish live is:

type in 'weed killer' on page 3 weedkiller.com is found and its a stupid ebat affilliate store where as my website weed-killer.net is nowhere to be seen................RUBBISH Bing, hang your heads in shame for wasting our time!

uh... fix your site first...

Well, you could blame the search engines, but what the hell is with all those Google Ads on the top of your homepage... your site appears to be more about promoting other sites then about providing information, so I would rank you lower too... I understand there is some strategy here, but get ranked higher first, THEN put the ads up there...

Also, Yahoo seems to think your site is only 3 pages... you may want to get a more visible html sitemap on there and get some links to all of your pages to help the spiders find them... ~70 of so incoming links probably needs to be improved on too...

You can look into some SEO Business Intelligence Reports to get a better look at the competition.

Page 3?

Seriously??? You're going to declare Bing dead because your site got trumped by a page three result? I'm not declaring Bing a winner by any means. It's too early. But at least keep some perspective.

Nice Bing!!!!!!

Hi

I find that Bing is great work. It shows only exact result which required.. So I say All the Best for BIng....

Bing

I agree that the search results seem very similar to live's but the overall site is so much nicer to use

Take a break...

... Mr. Google Perfect. Google's results are not always that great either.
Let me give you one advice: Wear Sunscreen ;-)

Bing and his future

Lets see what the future has to say about this new search engine

Come on give it a chance

Hey guys, those that have recognised the potential well dont, those that are still on the fence well done, those that have just splayed bing already.... Narrow minded.. Give bing a chance, its abviosly been launched before its ready. Let bing take some feedback and see what people want. They will listen, they have to to stand a chance. Google has dominated the market for too long now. Its refreshing to see a serious competitor on the market again. Yes its obviously still using live's indexed pages and crappy algorithms. But lets face it microsoft have the money to invest heavily in this. They cant just do this in a few months it takes years of refining and tweaking. They will get it right im sure. Lets face it, the way the internet is going with the increase of home users connections. iGoogle aside plain google is pretty limited and dry. Times have changed while google has been pre occupied with making cash from adwords there face has started to fall off.

Image search rocks.... Your all in with that i know.

Vid search, well it needs to be like the image search.

Web search, well thats crap

Shopping, microsoft hasnt long purchased it so i expect it to be re branded to fit in with bing?

News, doesnt look like they have even got to that bit yet.

all in all, hold tight! lets see where this goes.

Competition is Good

Competition in any business is a good thing and Bing is competition for Google, which is probably why Mr Cutts waded in early to try and find faults. It'll be a war of words for a while until things settle down and everyone gets on with doing what they're doing. From an SEO standpoint, Google has been getting increasingly difficulty to rank for many keywords, whereas MSN's old Live and its new incarnation Bing seems to be more accommodating. Let's see how this pans out.

Bun fight?

That looks like nothing more than a bun fight between the two. Could it be that Google are actually a little concerned?

I think Google still rule in local search, but this could be short lived - well I can hope? :P can't I? I much prefer the Bing search results it's a much neater package than anything Google offer. Not to mention I love the continual results that Bing offer in their image search.

Relevance? Well I guess that's really a matter of opinion. Matt is right that there may be a non-relevant listing in his results. But if we're going to get down to the grit, half of the pages returned in my Google searches just don't cut it either. It's the overall user experience that's key here... and bing win - for me! :)

What about image search?

They are showing tons of images on the same page to let you choose the right one. Help them by choosing it yourself after all they are irrelevant you know. And you have to wait until the images are downloaded. Wonderful stuff!

Follow Matts Way

Hey Bingoooooo.... kindly follow matts way..............

Bing is Live.com, that's it!!

I just want to let you all bing users know that bing is simply live.com with a different name, don't believe it? read this article

http://mashable.com/2009/06/01/bing-opens-up-live/

Why do you care? Why does

Why do you care? Why does it matter to you? If you like the search engine, use it.

Google lost me

Google is becoming to commercialized, that it makes me sick. It's apparent they just want to monopolize all the advertising dollars so much so, that I intentionally don't click on any Adsense ads, whether they are relevant or not.. If Bing is somewhat worthwhile, I'm going to drop Google in a heartbeat.
