The market leader

Google is the fastest growing business in the world. No wonder it is because of the above mentioned principles.

Principles are much required

Principles are much required to surviving in this world. In every walk of life we have to follow some principles that are necessary for achieving success in the life.

Google's 6 principles of e-commerce

If this is true, why does every software I install try to force me into installing google tool bar? I've uninstalled it a dozen times but it keeps showing up again. I'm assuming other users at home are accidently installing it, but still, it comes up checked with everything. I don't think that's following their principles. Can I get a cookie that has the option saved - "Never install a tool bar and never ask again!"

having read a few of the

having read a few of the replies here, i would like to take the oppertunity to remind everyone that google is actually a business and therefore will not do anything unless there is a percieved benefit from doing so.

Wouldn't it be great...

If everyone followed the same principles?

Nothing lasts forever. I

Nothing lasts forever. I sometimes wonder, "what will come after Google?" Because, eventually, something will.

Google's 6 principles of e-commerce

Citing concerns over the growing disregard for the rights of computer users, Google has outlined a set of principles that the company hopes the industry will adopt. Google says it’s sharing them to foster discussion and solve the problem, and is encouraging feedback on the principles.

1.“Thou shalt not trick the user.” Installation – Software should not trick the user into installing it, and the user should decide whether to enable it or not. Notifications of all applications should be conspicuous to the user.

2. “Thou shalt identify true purpose.” Upfront disclosure – Any enabled or installed application must inform you of its principal and significant functions.

3. “Thou shalt delete easily.” Simple removal – The user should be able to simply disable or delete any application without disrupting the computer. Once disabled it should not remain active or be automatically enabled later by itself or another application.

4. “Thou shalt not confuse user.” Clear behavior – applications that change or affect the user experience should clearly establish the reason for those changes. Applications should not intentionally obscure themselves under confusing names.

5. “Thou shalt not spy.” Snooping – If an application collects or transmits your personal information, you should know. Your explicit permission must be asked.

6. “Thou shalt consort with good fellows.” Keeping good company – Application providers should not allow their products to be bundled with applications that do not meet the guidelines.

WTF Google?

"1. Help other businesses be more competitive."

Is that not mutually exclusive in the case of Google? All online businesses use Google in one way or the other. If all competitors in a market are Google users, one competitor can only advance in relation to other competitors. This principal is inherently NOT one of equality. It's evident on its face. Did anybody stop to think about what these words mean? Does it mean "Help other businesses who do as Google instructs to be more competitive, the rest can go to hell?"

Nice Policy

Very Good Principle

Google and ME

I honestly have built an entire online income stream based on Google, Lord were they to shut up shop tomorrow, man would I be in Strife.

Love them or Hate them, I hope they hang around for a while.

I like to think of them as a Benevolent ruler of a Kingdom. I do not know of any Corporation that has supported/enabled/facilitated the growth so many small businesses in this lifetime.

Google Stay a While Longer

Open is better. But too bad Google is closed.

"3. Open is better than closed." should read...
"3. Open is better than closed, unless..." Unless of course your site has adult-related content... then Google is closed. Open and happy to take your business money so you can advertise on their network... but closed to allowing your adult-content website to take part in Adsense to profit from it.

Re: Google's 6 Principles of Competition and Openness

yes we all know that Google's great. It's great because WE make it great. I helped make it greater six times today already in fact.

The problem here is that it's becoming TOO great. It's not natural to dominate everything. Who wants to go into a contest with Google on anything IT these days? You'll lose.

Notice how all of the things in the list are Googlecentric.
& They said:
1. Help other businesses be more competitive.
read as: "Help business compete against each other with AdWords(tm). We just love the way they try to outdo each other because it makes us more money!"

4. Competition is just one click away.
read as ; "Don't click away from Google(r) because if you're not at Google then you're at one of our competitors' sites. We don't like that very much - and neither do you. Again, and neither do you. :->"

This is exactly why they have to stifle/limit competition whenever they can get away with it.

Yes Google will be great for some time to come, we all know that, but there will be a consumer and tech revolt and some companies going to make them have a run for the money.
They'll be saying stuff like "Remember the good ole days when customers where there for the picking? now we have to actually fight for customers!"

When people get hungry they start doing bad stuff. When companies get hungry they start doing the stuff that you did to them to make them hungry in the first place.

Should be interesting.

6 good principles

I myself is a great admirer of Google, be it their products or web services. They seem to be a leader in each and everything on web today. Must say, their principles are worth reading. hope they will stick to it.

Google

Google is becoming a very poweful organization. I don't think they are evil, but the fact that they don't seem to have much competition themselves worries me.

Yeah, you're right...

Yeah, you're right... I think though at some point someone possibly new will come along and challenge them.

Probably, but Google will

Probably, but Google will just buy them. Still, I think it's a great company.

Google is heart

I agree this and hope google will favor for all the genuine websites.

great except for one thing

it's a monopoly -THEY can have text link ads --- but NO ONE ELSE can

Couldn't agree more... I

Couldn't agree more... I must admit, they are good.

I agree

I agree.

One Small Step

I'ts one small step for google in their effort to be more transparent.
Let's hope it is! But they may be very selective in letting us know much, they didn't get where they are by being to open.

Cheers Local Tradesmen

"open is better than

"open is better than closed"...

yeah right... tell that to google china...

I love Google

Google is such a cool company. It seem to have the "It factor" all over it.

I mean it is a text area with the text Google above, and still everyone and their piano teacher wants to read the next story about them.

Google Is Different.

The Open Is better than closed Is really a fantastic Motto.
Google Is really a company that shows stuff to users and shareholders that other companies normally don't look forward too.
Perhaps thats what makes Google different.
