The White House bloggers

The White House bloggers seem quite aware that a press release isn’t a post and are trying to create a difference between the two.

Nah..

not by a long shot..twitter's no way close to google..

Not likely

Twitter is simply a different format than Google. It's very unlikely it will take much of a market share to be honest, simply because the function is totally different.

Plus, the fad of social media will eventually end and the counter-social media fads will start, and all the while, Google will still be providing search. Search, quite simply, will never go away, only evolve.

twitter will replace google?

I don't agree very much that twitter can replace Google. Twitter are merely conversation while Google are scholastic content. Secondly, twitter is known only in US while Google are all languages.

Dont think so

It seems like a good idea now, but what about when Twitter is more mainstream and EVERYONE is on it? Won't it become the same thing that Google is trying to prevent, a forum for ANYONE to become indexed or build/gain authority?

Nope.

Nope, Google will not become obsolete, because even though Twitter is real time and awesome, it does not have the features that Google has in indexing and sorting out pages through it's PR system, ...

Even though Twitter is great, and I *do* think Twitter is great, I don't think it will become a replacement for Google and traditional information search.
