Can eBay Win Back Sellers with a Shift in Focus?

A Look at eBay's Fixed Price Numbers

Only positive feedback for buyers?

This HURTS, is unfair and shows again why Ebay is hurting sellers.
Doesn't this rule put an umbrella over ALL buyers? Not ALL buyers are honest and good!
It hurt me (unfairly) so I abandoned my profile and am starting out at "0" again.
I'd rather do that then have negative feedback that's NOT TRUE.
If you're interested, here's the story. If not, The above mention is enough.

Sometimes even Ebay makes mistakes and sometime down the road, reverses or changes it polices to reflect something that makes more sense, to right some wrongs or fix something that's not working. That happened one time. Someone left me negative feedback and I just let it go, even though it was not warranted. Later, Ebay removed the feedback on their own, stating that what happened in the past, concerning feedback, wasn't correct. Now, someone has left me negative feedback that's not true, therefore is a lie. The buyer is upset that Ebay made them pay for an item. An item they bid on and won, then refused to pay for, via emails to me OUTSIDE of Ebay. I didn't even want to open up the case, period. Thirty days went by and then Ebay billed me for the item that the buyer backed out on. Ebay FORCED me to open the case or make me pay for the "final value fee". When I said "I'm okay with the buyer backing out, I'll relist it", Ebay said "no, you have to file a case or pay us". So, I filed the case. All for $2.11. So the buyer paid under the threat of Ebay giving him an unpaid strike. Then left me bogus feedback about shipping charges, and this is important, it's all a lie. So, Ebay's policies regarding this type of situation is wrong. The feedback should be removed. I was always proud of my 100% feedback. So now, I'll abandon my 109 positive feedbacks, my profile and my good name. I'll start all over again. All for the $2.11 that Ebay FORCED me to pursue. Maybe someday down the road, Ebay will see the wrong that was done (since it's very easily seen)and remove it from my feedback. It make take a year, maybe two, maybe never... but I'll wait.....and for now, start all over again at "0".

Better Sellers - Ebay Sifted Out the Garbage

I've been an ebay member since Sept 00' Mostly a buyer, but have also done a good deal of selling. 671 feedback to date and all 100% positive.

Since Ebay has implemented these changes, I have noticed that most sellers go out of their way to properly described their items. I haven't received anything wrongfully described, nobody has tried to trick me on shipping costs or force me to pay for their paypal fees. I can leave them honest feedback without fear of the seller retaliating, but I haven't had to leave any negatives because they are better sellers now especially with their communication/descriptions.

Maybe they need to make a slight modification, but speaking from this buyer's point of veiw, EBAY cleaned out a good deal of trash sellers from their marketplace. If you don't like Ebays policies, then go sell on IOFFER or another auction site. I trust buying on ebay a lot more now

In early years of Ebay it was a crapshoot on whether or not an item I was buying was going to be honestly listed or not.
I ran into some really nasty sellers. The first negative I gave, the seller gave one in revenge. What did I do wrong? I paid for the item, it never came to me. The guys message in my feedback was that his computer was broken and he just sent the items (over a month after I paid, several e-mails and phone calls later). Over the years I had 2 more like this.

I've had other issues where sellers had hidden fees that were NOT listed in their auctions. One example was a seller trying to make me pay extra if I used Paypal. Seller taking their sweet time to send an item out was another issue that is long gone. I've emailed sellers 2 weeks after an auction ended and got nasty responses about how it was sent (yesterday) and I just needed to be patient. Getting a Bootlegged copy of something when you thought you were getting something legit, not fun. I could go on with this, but you get the idea.

After a while I became scared to leave negative/neutral feedback for fear of revenge. So I rolled the dice whenever I bought something and hoped there wasn't going to be an issue. If there was I just took it in the butt.
I still have to be watchful of feedback and read the auctions carefully, but I have a lot more trust in Ebay's sellers now more than I ever did before.

BOYCOTTING EBAY!!! THE ONLY WAY FOR SELLERS TO >>>

Most of these comments here hit the nail on the head but they remind me of the complainers you run into in a bar.
You can discuss any diturbing subject and there is always a group who will say> if I was this and that I would fix it. And that is the end of the converstion. Nothing gets done but the Big Talk.
Concerning eBay the only thing you can do is to hurt the investers and the way to do that is not offer your buyers the goods.
Here's the catch 22 though. No other sites are as good for traffic as ebay and I count on my sales to suppliment my disability check.
You have to CANCEL your account to make a dent in ebay. If you just leave your account open and stop selling it does not reflect to ebay that you are serious enough to worry about it. But if you cancel then a red flag goes up right now to ebay and they ask you what was wrong and how could they keep you as a customer??

When the account is canceled it sends the monthly stats down and that goes to the investers.
Once the investers start loosing there gravy in the forms of residuals each month they take note and jump on the head office of ebay and the clown who comes up with the penny pinching ideas to suck more blood out of the sellers.

We as ebay sellers need to find a site together as a whole and everyone agree to go and sell at that one site like bodtunnel.com.

Once we establish the site and word gets around to the buyers that everyone is moving to said site they will go there to buy instead of ebay because there will not be the goods offered.

i can offer the ideas but I am not good at organizing the groop to make this happen but I can offer the idea of how it should be done.
We sellers need to set a date (say a year from now) and agree to cancel our accounts all at once on that day.
When fifty million sellers drop ebay like a sack of rice on the same day heads will roll in the quality control office.
Every one who cancels there account should already have a new account open at the agreed upon new site to start selling. This will make the new site jump off the charts and give them a big jump in the competitive auction sites.
Unless we can band together and do this in a mass then a few sellers like you here is not going to hurt ebay enough to make them change a thing.
They probably have 2 new people signing up to sell items to every one who cancels.
Let me know if any of you out there want to take on this mass revolt and get it started. I will be the first to sign the form agreeing to cancel on said date and go the the agreed upon site to start selling.
as for now you have to realize the ebay and paypal combined is taking about 15 to 18 percent out of our sales. The local auction house in your area is most likely getting 30 to 35 percent so we are still better off then doing it that way. Signed, Buck Rogers

eBay is shooting itself in the foot or virtual tendrils!

Guess what, JCPenney's was wrong, customers are not always right! I have some very cheap customers who got an amazing steal and then dissed me...makes me think they were competitors...that's the problem...competitors can create another account, buy from their competitors for less or at astoundingly cheap prices and then provide negative feedback. eBay has gone down hill big time...good luck eBay! Since your money is made off the sellers! Who is the moron in charge these days at eBay? What a joke! Even if the buyer isn't a competitor, they don't have any force to keep them in check...we used to have a balance and that's gone...as with all things human, given enough time, the organization will grow to the point of killing itself...LOL!

ebay robbed me!

I was just trying to make a little hobby of selling t-shirts with designs I created, nothing big. I have purchased things on ebay in the past with no problem. But when i started a seller account on ebay, things went very wrong. They wouldnt let me set a flat fee for my shirts right off the bat, so I had to auction them. This meant I had to post the 40+ designs, and then relist them every week hoping they would sell. I saw these fees mount, and I assumed that when a certain design sold, the fees for that particular design would be deducted from that sale, and on and on. But no. After almost a month the first shirt sold, and although the transaction says complete, I have not received the money in my checking account. Did it disappear into my vat of fees? I can't find any evidence of this. I ended all my listings, but unfortunately another shirt sold. I haven't seen the money from it either, and now ebay has taken over $300 from my checking account to pay off their fees from my little creative hobby! I am poor, I won't lie. That money was to feed my family for the next two weeks, and it's gone. I wrote to them to complain, but was only told the seller fees were listed clearly. What wasn't clear was that it would be taken out all at once. Payday advance, here I come! When these fees are cleared, I am shutting down my paypal and ebay, never to use again!

I opened a store on cafepress.com/rukkusrants. Let them do the work, I will just wait to receive any profit, I hope.

Lern how too spel.

Lern how too spel.

ebay

I have been selling on ebay for 6 years, And it is horrible. the rates push me to raise prices, and cut corners. listing an item or just editing is a pain. I have reduced my stock from a high of over 800 items to 25. And I am thinking of closing altogether. there are many sites that are cheaper and even Free (ecrater.com) where selling is a breeze.

Ebay sucks. Buyers can use

Ebay sucks. Buyers can use neg feedback to rape seller's business reputation whenever they like. If you protest, ebay would say you have to respect the buyers' decision. They don't care about sellers at all. They always tell you to obey ebay's policy. One of the feedback policy is to base on the fact. Some horrible buyers just come up any excuses to leave negative feedback. When you try to prove the fact, ebay/paypal don't care. Ebay doesn't consider sellers are the customers at all. Totally disappointed. I am moving to other websites.

eBay sucks. Buyer can use...

I totally agree!!!

I agree also ...Just

I agree also ...Just chedcked out http://www.Bidtunnel.com its free. And sellers can leave Neg. Feedback if needed.

bad dress

If you would like to let people know. you can list the dress on ebay selling it as a piece of junk bought from that seller stating all your concerns. then the seller will have to buy it from you (at a higher price ofcourse) to remove it. PS. use a diiferent new ebay account so when they go to give you neg. feedback you can just close the account.

Try Bidtunnel its free

Try Bidtunnel its free www.bidtunnel.com I like this Chris guys blogs he talks about ebay alot.

EBAY the" PIMP "

Right now EBAY treats there Sellers like Prostitutes , they force us to work hard with little or no compensation and no options to voice you concerns Ebay is at its worst ever i am closing my accounts and stick to craigslist and othe sites that values there sellers .

There is a charge on every thing you do and there policies only allow them to make money

I'm a prostitute and ebay is my pimp

Truer words were never written. This is EXACTLY the appropriate analogy to use when describing the Seller/Ebay and Buyer/Ebay experience. The seller is the prostitute, working and making the money while being abused by their pimp, Ebay, at every turn. The "john" is the buyer...the pimp/Ebay wants to keep him happy, so he won't go elsewhere.

The prostitutes who need to earn a living have no other place to sell their wares, so they stay with their abusive pimp.

BUT...watch out, if Google or someone like that decided to challenge the monopoly Ebay has....the prostitutes will be leaving in DROVES.

reply

I have been selling on ebay since 2004, and i am totally agree with your comment. ebay is not worth to grow your business. ebay policies is a DON"T CARE policies

EBAY is a THIEF with No heart

I am gonna find somewhere else EBAY is a Thief with no heart they are killing the sellers

EBAY THE ONLINE SLAVE DRIVER , ITS ALL ABOUT MILKING THE SELLERS

I HAVE BEEN READING AND I MUST SAY THERE IS NO WAY REALLY TO MAKE MONEY ON EBAY ANYMORE , i MEAN NO WAY , IF YOU SIT BACK AND THINK OF A IDEA HOW YOU WILL LIST YOU PRODUCTS AND HOW IT WILL BENIFIT YOU I CAN ASURE THAT YOU WILL BE VIOLATING ONE OF EBAY POLICIES .

I WAS READING ALONG AND SERIOUSLY I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF LEAVING EBAY BUT I HAVE FINALLY COME TO MY DECISION NO MORE EBAY I AM GONNA WAIT UNTIL MY LISTINGS HAVE EXPIRED OR SOLD AND TO HELL WITH THEM, BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST USING SELLERS AS A SMALL SELLER MY TOTAL SALES FOR THE MONTH MAY BE $550 AND MY SELLERS FEES ARE ONE $170 NOT TO MENTION HOW MUCH PAYPAL HAS TAKEN THEN YOU HAVE SHIP OUT STUFF THIS IS REALLY A ONLINE SLAVERY GOING ON .

SELLERS WORKING VERY HARD AND DOING ALL THE WORK AND THEN INSTEAD OF BEEN PAID YOU ARE PAYING THE BOSS WHICH IS EBAY AND PAYPAL

Making money

The only way to make money now is listing on free sites like the one listed below www.Bidtunnel.com stuff does not sell as fast on the other free sites but atleast you dont have to pay seller fees and relist for more seller fees.Plus sellers can leave true feedback for buyers............. unlike ebay.

ebay gouging

Ebay is gouging, that's the term commonly used to describe practices such as theirs. I'm pretty well fed up with ebay, too like others here. If you only buy on ebay you're probably not aware of it but just start selling stuff there and the charges and fees come flying at you. You wind up feeling that you you might as well have just handed the merchandise over to ebay. If you're selling your own stuff you wind up getting next to nothing for it when ebay's collected its fees and if your selling for profit you're not going to see much. ebay's like any business. Once they taste succes they get big headed and think they can do whatever they want and ebay sucks as much money out of their customers as they think they can get away with. They've, at this point, developed the screw you attitude toward their customers. I've seen this type of behavour by companies over and over. They can't manipulate buyers because the ball is fully in their court-buying is at the buyer's discretion-so they put the sqeeze on sellers. Hey, WTF-more money for them. Who gives a s**t about the customers (sellers). They need to sell stuff to get rid of it or make some money themselves so ebay's got them by the balls. This is the way walmart treats its suppliers to provide low prices to shoppers and, by turning over huge volume, HUGE profits for them. It's all about who's in the driver's seat-not about fairness.

YES ITS ALL TRUE! I have

YES ITS ALL TRUE! I have been selling on ebay since 2000 and have seen the respect to its sellers decline to the texture of dirt! Ebay was made rich on the sellers hard work and now its loyalities are to which ever greases its wallets! It is dictatorship at its very best! I cannot wait until they are usurped by hopefully one that understands which hand is feeding him! Paypal is another mafia.. Why is it people just succumb? Ebay is "enabled" by so many who have good excuses- oh but they give me customers I wouldn't of had! " I can make .10 on a whole 1.00! I need them to make a living!" Sounds like Papa Ebay takes good care of its down and outers! NOT!
Respectifully, Susan

eBay does get it!!

I don't believe the people running eBay really know how to run a business. The first rule of running a business is to treat your customers right.

Both the buyers and sellers are eBay's customers. Both groups need to be treated honestly and FAIRLY. To emphasis the treatment of one group over the other is not right. A careful balance needs to be crafted and it needs to be fair.

If you thought of eBay as a retailer, the sellers could be considered their vendors. If you treat them poorly and make it impossible for them to do business with you, they will either close up shop or go somewhere else.

Without vendors (sellers), eBay has nothing to sell to it's customers (buyers). Without sellers, there will be no buyers.

I know this seems pretty simple but it really is THAT simple. eBay needs to GET IT!

ebay ripped me off

ebay just yanked all my 10 day Auctions and still charged me the seller listing fees! And the Auctions did not violate any rules...Also a few weeks ago I was paying double seller fees on ebay to list in 2 categories and they charged me but me items only showed up in the first category. I feel I have been ripped off and I am a Bronze power seller...I will be moving all on auctions to a FREE auction site I just found called www.Bidtunnel.com at least they cant rip me off at Bidtunnel cause its free! Bidtunnel also has free webstores I am done with ebay yanking my auctions and charging me the listing fees was enough to put this over the edge with this powerseller! I mean ex-ebay powerseller! Come join me over at www.bidtunnel.com atleast its free!

I DESTEST EBAY! THEY ARE NO

I DESTEST EBAY! THEY ARE NO DIFFERENT THEN THE MAFIA! I LOOK FORWARD TO ITS DEMISE! THEY ARE A DICTORSHIP ONLY CONCERNED WITH PROFIT! WHAT ELSE IS NEW? I HOPE I HAVE A FRONT ROW SEAT!

I will meet you there

I have sold $606.00 on ebay in the last 31 days and ebay took $151.00 in fees then paypal took around 3% and I was listing with their free shipping promotion to get the higher listing ranking...Therefore I have to pay for shipping out of what I made plus shipping supplys ,gas time etc. I just cant make money at ebay anymore. At least at www.bidtunnel.com sellers can leave neg. feedback if needed.Bidtunnel looks like it my be like ebay was years ago.I am going to give it a try I have nothing to lose at this piont cause ebay is costing me money.

My sales are worse than ever this month on ebay

This last month has been my worst month as a seller on ebay than ever. It may be due to a number of factors including the economy and ebay's practices. Actually, all of the fees added up together since I have a store front has cost me more this month than I made through sales. At least ebay could be smart enough in trying to tie fees with sales especially for stores when sales are down. This cannot continue and I may have to take down my store if no sales are made this month at all. I can't afford to be paying ebay for nothing and getting no buyers for my ebay store items. Ebay and paypal take a percentage on everything so that total costs for their commissions can amount to around 33% of an items selling price. Profit on an item is usually around 10%-20% so that money is being lost everytime.

Ebay sales

This past 3 months I have actually lost money because of all the charges for listing and other charges. I haven't had that many sales so the listing charges are getting way out of hand. I will probably have to quit at the end of May if things don't improve a lot!
