This almost seems to be an

This almost seems to be an admission to a lack of quality programming
Or a lack of viewers able to appreciate quality programming, I wonder what would happen to quality channels like the History Channel, Discovery channel, PBS, A&E...  if we had pay per channel.  I also wonder what would happen to future upstart quality channels.
Unfortunately, dumb programming is what the vast majority want otherwise programming like WWF, the game channel and the Soap channel would not exist
We are in a lose lose situation
Online video and video on demand programming of programs are only available because they were previously broadcast and the channels were able to charge for advertising, they would disappear.
The result would be an evermore dumbing of TV programming and more expensive pay per view or premium programming that few would be able to afford, especially low income families.
