At least we are seeing more

At least we are seeing more people support SEO and get our industry more recognized. I know a lot of people that have no idea what the word SEO is or stands for.

Great article

I think with more syndication partners using the content from the newspapers to drive traffic to their own sites. The newspapers need to find a new way to drive seo traffic by creating unique content that they don't syndicate.

Real Estate Classifieds gone as well

I see it as quite a milestone that a major paper like the LA Times would also axe their weekly printed real estate classified section.  In days past that was a huge source of revenue to most any newspaper.

Old Dogs

Ironic to hear people say print is dead. As your post clearly demonstrates, print simply isn't what it use to be. So much for old dogs not learning new tricks.
