Blogging and employment law

Last week a senior employee of the Greater London Authority was fired for a remark that was published on someone else's blog.

Its a sign that an organisation doesn't fully understand the Internet. Why are organisations so scared? I thought only totalitarian regimes acted this way.

Active duty falls under different rules

Active duty personnel fall under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and the Constitutional right for freedom of speech does not apply here.

He has rights under the UCMJ to appeal any decision through his chain of command. He does NOT have the right to publicly undermine his command in the press.  To do so is detrimental to his command and his unit's mission.

If he is unhappy about an offered promotion, I am sure there are plenty of other officers that would accept an XO posting (and the increase in pay grade).  Quit whining and soldier.
