great stuff
Basics are what its all about. Once you get those down and the site is techncially and structureally sound, then you can start dipping your toe in some more advanced seo to get a little boost.
Lisa is right and wrong
Agree with Lisa, but only on short term return, long term with 'open' seemingly around the bend those other channels will be enourmously beneficial to any campaign. But again she is right that in the short term a mediocre youtube channel is not the way to impact the bottom line this month.
"And / or, they can pull
"And / or, they can pull traffic by digg or facebook. There are businesses who live 100% on myspace"
The operative being traffic. There is targeted traffic and there is the kind of traffic which comes from digg and myspace. When G says that myspace seems a bust... sorry I'll spend my time attracting real customers with CCards in hand rather than attracting a bunch of traffic which does nothing but consume bandwidth!
I agree with you David
I agree with you David, the basics of SEO are a must. It's great to have new and exciting things come along because it adds flavor to SEO. But you got to have the basics and they should be your main focus. We shouldn't loss site of that. And of course you'll find some people who these new things are their niche and can stick with just using them - here we find a loop hole in our logic, but for most of us using the basics is how we work. Sprinkling in the new stuff is what makes it exciting every now and then.
Love the ice cream analogy.
Basics matter but there are many ways to win
One of the business facts is that while there are some recipes to follow, there is always room for creativity. A company can flourish by doing press releases. Or traditional advertising. Online, there is "traditional SEO" (funny thought, huh?) by generating content which attracts links and organizing pages. And / or, they can pull traffic by digg or facebook. There are businesses who live 100% on myspace.
In short, I'm disagreeing with advising people to find a balance. I"d suggest that they find a strategy'
