Who cares?
Peoples want relevant results, fresh result only good for news.
This is a dead end road
I believe it is a mistake that recent results are better results in any and all cases. While there come to mind many ways to express recency in a search query, such as expressing a date, or words like news or recent or event. I believe it is a bad idea to simply assume that this is more relevant to searchers. I much prefer a search engine that gives be a broad range of ten quality results, over one that gives me ten rehashes of the same “story” from different news media.
Lets assume I have read some of the news and I want to learn a bit more. Turning to a time skewed Google will have me work hard until I get through the other news media's accounts of the very same recent event to the “timeless” background information I'm looking for. Google, stick to “Do no evil!”
