Noone Will find that
Noone will find or use those seaches, considering the position on the page. I thik about .56% of all searches actually get to the bottom of page one for any given search, so Google would be doin themselves a favor by mixing this option into Universal Results which seem as of late to appear in position 4 for relevant searches.
Search related topics in the news section
I think it is a good idea having related topics in the news section. For example, if you were looking space, you could have words like NASA, European Space Agency, Launches, Space Shuttle.
In terms of international spelling for the related words, I think there should be regionalisation. With my site dialashop, I sometimes look up the word shopping to see if there is any useful news to mention on my site and having related keywords is useful.
