thanks for your idea... about..

Most artists focus on their official Web site and their MySpace profile while paying little attention to Wikipedia. According to data from Yahoo provided to Billboard, Wikipedia is the second most popular place to search for artist information after Google. Users search an artists Wikipedia entry by more than 2-to-1 over their MySpace page.

Wikipedia doesnt work for this

I personally dont know a single person who goes to Wikipedia to search bands unless they are truly popular bands from years ago.

Myspace - much improved

Myspace has seen some improvements, hopefully they can upgrade their templating system, and then would be the best place for bands....

Not useful

Myspace is partnering with the large labels in a music sharing program that will mean massive traffic to Myspace.com, so this story, while important, will likely be a moot point once that happens, as noone will be searching Wikipedia for bands unless theyare looking for historical data.

Hard to Believe

Those stats are hard to believe. Many of the bands I know are not listed there or would not be able to get a listing there. I certainly do not hear of bands running out to ge a listing a Wikipedia - maybe they should be?

Actually, This is Inccurate

You can get a band submitted to Wiki, but the deal is that you have to submit the band in third person, and write in non-hype about the band and their achievements. Unfortunately, this doesn't rpvoide much benefit for the artist, since they cannot promote themselves there, and a regular listing there for a band reads like Physician wallpaper.

Creating/editing your own Wikipedia page

According to the rules on Wikipedia, this can't be done, as it would be a "COI" (conflict of interest). You can't write about yourself or have self-promotional items. Lenac states, "There's been many people I've talked to that didn't even know they could upload a Wikipedia page," Well, according to the rules, you can't.
