Google Says Microsoft, Yahoo Deal "Bad for the Internet"

Openness threatened

The company that has a

The company that has a monopoly on online advertising is crying about some competion. I think Schmidt and Google are bad for the Internet.

Back and Forth

Sometimes the negotiations at a Corporate level sound more like the negotiations at the 7 year old level :)

Wow, thats interesting

I love stories like this. Google tells everyone that partnership is bad, and then goes ahead and partners with Yahoo themselves.

It is amazing that there isnt some type of board of operations who oversees decisions like this.

Hypocrisy

Talk about hypocritical - Google slams the Yahoo / MSN partnership ideal, then goes ahead and partners with Yahoo themselves.

Nothing wrong in Deal

Well I don't find anything wrong in Yahoo Microsoft deal afterall they will work together for the betterment of internet.I think Google has sensed that their No. 1 position is in danger that is why such ststements are emanating from Google.........

Pot Calling Kettle Black

I have a tough time with Google having any say in the merger of these two companies, since Google typically swallows up smaller companies in an attempt to own and archive everything on the planet.

How can diversity and partnerships be a bad thing?

An Obvious Monopoly at Google.com

I simply adore the way Google does business. They simply buy out everything even remotely related to the www, and have a massive share of the market including Youtube, GA and tons of other components. The other two engines are struggling to stay alive.

Then they claim that a merger would be unfair? And then they turn around and partner with Yahoo after they claimed it was unfair, but do so in a way where noone (including Yahoo) is going to make a fuss, since Google does not have any stake in Y! search, only providing advertisers for Yahoo network.

The hypocrisy here is stiffling.

Google

Give google a better competitors... I think this deal would be great.

"inappropriate influence" ?? How Ironic!

It would seem that is exactly what Google is doing. Trying to influence the opinions of market inappropriately. With Google being by far the market leader (i.e. 50-60% of the market to themselves and growing everyday), and heading towards being a monopoly, I find it ironic that they are doing exactly what they condemn Microsoft for; having an unfair influence on the market, abusing market position, buying up assets and competing companies, and being a monopoly. The only way that Google will have a competitor and stop it from becoming a monopoly like Microsoft is in the operating system industry, is for companies with smaller market share to band together. I think the scare mongering would be valid if either Yahoo or MSN were higher in their market share (as individual companies). As it is the two companies combined do not add up to Google’s market share of 50-60%, (i.e. Yahoo 23%, MSN 10-13%, for a max total of 46%, assuming that there is no double up, which there is). So at the moment there is no real competition to Google and unless there is, Google will ironically become another "Microsoft". They will continue to "buy up" the internet and throw around statements about how unfair it would be if they had some competition.
