Yahoo May Sign Up For OpenSocial

Multiple reasons why, hard to say when

OpenSocial

My understanding is that OpenSocial is 3 things.
1) A Gadget API that gadget developers can work to.
2) A Container API that website owners can add so that gadgets can run in their web site as well as Orkut.
3) A set of RESTful Data APIs that can be used to build mashups.

So what?

Sure, a lot of people on the team, but with them all standing round shaking hands rather than getting on with anything.  How many applications are there on Facebook? Is it tens of thousands yet?  And how many on Open Social?

Somebody in that camp needs to get some apps out soon so that the rest of us can start getting as excited as those vendors' marketing people.  And here's hoping the apps are business focused, rather than it meaning people can now throw sheep at me every place I turn...
